Vitamins and minerals are macronutrients essential for the proper functioning of our metabolism. They must be provided daily through food in sufficient quantity.
The word vitamin means "vital amine" and was discovered in 1910. Vitamins are not a source of energy, they are active molecules at low doses playing an important role in the regulation of our organism.
Vitamins fall into two groups. First there are the fat soluble vitamins which are fat soluble (A, D, E, K). Then there are the water-soluble vitamins which are soluble in aqueous solutions (C, group B).
Among the fat-soluble vitamins, vitamin A is rich in anti-oxidants with a role of protection vis-à-vis the mucous membranes. Vitamin D, for its part, participates in the body's phosphocalcic metabolism by promoting the binding of calcium to the bones. More recently, scientists have discovered a new role for vitamin D, that of participating in the proper functioning of the immune system. Vitamin E protects cells from oxidative stress, a phenomenon of cellular aging.
Regarding water-soluble vitamins, vitamin C or ascorbic acid helps reduce fatigue and participates in the protection of mucous membranes like the skin. Group B vitamins have various roles such as participating in the proper functioning of nerve transmissions to preserve psychological functions and ensure the proper processing of macronutrients during digestion.
Our MULTIVIT BIO contains the 4 fat-soluble vitamins as well as most water-soluble vitamins (C, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B9, B12)
Minerals are trace elements present in varying amounts in our body. They are involved in particular in the constitution of tissues and the development of enzymes and hormones. Several factors decrease the absorption of minerals such as tobacco, coffee or an unbalanced diet while daily intakes must be satisfied.
Iron is present in plasma by binding to a protein but also as a reserve in the liver and spleen. Zinc is involved in the constitution of many enzymes. These two minerals participate in the proper functioning of the immune system.
Chromium helps regulate appetite and is involved in the normal metabolism of macronutrients (lipids, carbohydrates and amino acids). Iodine is a more specific mineral stored within the tyroid that helps regulate the body's carbohydrate metabolism.
Finally, manganese protects cells from oxidative stress and is involved in tissue production.
