More details
Homeopathy is a concept, developed in 1796 by Samuel Hahnemann, that involves the production and use of various highly diluted products to treat illnesses.
Different homeopathic remedies: You’ll find remedies in powder form (packets, tablets, pills), in liquid form, and in granule form. Homeopathic products are also incorporated into suppositories or injectable liquid preparations. The granule form is the most common. These are sugar or lactose granules that are coated with the chosen dilution of the remedy. The active ingredient is thus deposited on the surface, which is why it’s best not to touch the granules with your fingers. For this same reason, two granules are always given so that, even if they are touched slightly by accident, at least the equivalent of one granule is absorbed. Since, in principle, the quantity does not matter (for children, it is therefore advisable to give 3 or 4 granules). Solutions can also be prepared by dissolving 10 granules in water or by adding drops of a solution to the water. For external use, there are ointments or liniments into which homeopathic remedies are incorporated.
How to take your homeopathic treatment: Let the granules or globules dissolve under your tongue, away from meals or drinks, for optimal absorption. Avoid taking your homeopathic treatment at the same time as mint, coffee, or chamomile, as these reduce its absorption. Homeopathy and aromatherapy should not be taken simultaneously, as this would negate the effect of the homeopathic treatment. Allow a two-hour interval between taking the two treatments. The granules or globules marketed by Boiron Laboratories are made with sucrose and lactose. Taking twenty granules (or one dose of globules) provides one gram of sugar, which is equivalent to one-fifth of a sugar cube.
Guidelines for using homeopathic remedies: The frequency of administration depends on the severity of the condition and how long it has been present since the onset of symptoms. For chronic conditions, remedies are repeated once or twice a day. Recommended times: morning and evening, before meals. It is important to take the remedy at least 10 minutes before or after any food intake for low dilutions, 1 hour for medium dilutions, and 2 hours for high dilutions. That said, remedies have been known to be effective even when taken during meals or with coffee. The higher the dilution, the greater the interval between doses; in chronic cases: 7 days, 10 days, 12 days, 15 days. If you forget to take the remedy, postpone taking it until the day you realize you missed it, but delay taking the next high dilution by the same amount of time (unless the date of action within the month is specific, which is true only for certain remedies). In acute cases, the frequency (the quantity is not important) should be higher; remedies can be taken every 2 hours, every hour, every half hour, or even more frequently, depending on the intensity of the symptoms. As soon as there is improvement, you should gradually space out the doses.

Homeopathy works very quickly for acute illnesses. If you do not see any improvement, seek medical attention immediately. Do not continue treatment if it does not bring about any improvement; this can be dangerous.
Do not stop allopathic treatment to replace it with homeopathic treatment, or vice versa; these two forms of medicine are entirely compatible and complementary.
Homeopathy, a branch of alternative medicine, often raises questions about the unique nature of some of its remedies. In particular, why do some have no therapeutic indications, dosage instructions, or package insert?
Homeopathy is divided into two main categories of remedies, each with its own specific characteristics.
First, there are homeopathic remedies that lack any therapeutic indications, dosage instructions, or package inserts. This absence stems from the very nature of homeopathy, where a single remedy can be used to treat various conditions. For example, a remedy might be effective for both digestive disorders and insomnia. Similarly, a common condition such as a cold can be treated with different remedies, chosen based on the patient’s unique characteristics.
In this approach, the role of the healthcare professional is crucial. Only an experienced practitioner can determine the most appropriate remedy and the correct way to use it. These remedies generally come in vials and doses, in accordance with homeopathic traditions, and are named according to their Latin names.
On the other hand, certain homeopathic medicines come with clear therapeutic indications. Their composition—often a combination of several substances—is designed to target a specific health issue, such as a cold, a cough, or hot flashes. Thanks to package inserts and labeling, patients can easily understand the proper use of these medications.
These products come in various forms: tubes, single-dose packets, tablets, gels, ointments, syrups, eye drops, etc. Unlike the former, they do not bear a Latin name but rather a brand name associated with the manufacturing company.
Homeopathy differs from conventional medicine in its highly personalized approach. This distinctive feature is evident in the presentation and prescription of its medications. Healthcare professionals play a crucial role in interpreting symptoms and selecting the appropriate remedy. At the same time, the availability of medications with specific indications allows patients to manage minor ailments on their own.
All advice regarding the use of homeopathy is primarily based on the book *Homeopathy from A to Z* by Dr. Jean-Louis Masson, published by Marabout in 2003. The advice you find on this page is the result of research conducted by our pharmacists using medical literature and is not affiliated with Boiron Laboratories. Furthermore, this advice is in no way a substitute for the opinion of your homeopathic physician. It cannot replace a medical consultation. You should also never stop a treatment you’re currently taking or adjust the dosage on your own.
