Rhinitis is a benign, acute or chronic inflammation of the mucous membrane of the nasal cavities. As such, it has many causes and can take many forms. The most common is due to coryza or the common cold. It can be chronic, characterized by a thickening (hypertrophy) of the nasal mucosa, sometimes leading to severe obstruction of the nasal cavities.
In spring and summer, many cases of rhinitis are caused by pollen allergies, but other allergens such as dust mites, animal dander, mold and dust should not be overlooked.
Also known as allergic, anaphylactic or perennial rhinitis, this is the nasal form of allergy, characterized by frequent sneezing, runny nose and nasal congestion. It is often pollen rhinitis, i.e. triggered by allergenic pollens (pollinosis). Treatment is fairly standard, essentially based on antihistamines or cortisone. Pollen desensitization programs are also available, notably for grass pollens. At the same time, homeopathy offers customized natural solutions that gently relieve symptoms and strengthen the allergic terrain.
There are 2 types of allergic rhinitis:
It's most often caused by plant allergens, which vary with the season.
Common plant allergens include the following:
Causes also differ from region to region, and allergic rhinitis is sometimes due to airborne mycotic spores.
This is caused by year-round exposure to allergens inhaled in the home (dust mites, cockroaches, fragments of animal hair or feathers), or by strong reactivity to plant pollens over several seasons.
The Asteraceae or Compositae group some 25,000 species, including ragweed and mugwort. Accidentally introduced to France 50 years ago (by American paratroopers), ragweed is responsible for severe pollenosis and asthma in people who are often sensitized to foods such as celery. Ragweed is unique in that its explosive pollination is concentrated in the second half of August and early September. Sagebrush pollinates from mid-July to mid-October. Pollens are highly allergenic, causing rhinoconjunctivitis and asthma.
The Urticaceae family comprises some 700 species, mostly tropical. Parietaria are found mainly in Europe. Parietaria is responsible for persistent rhino-conjunctivitis and severe asthma, its pollination, as abundant as that of the Grasses, is spread over a long period (April to mid-October).
Trees are a major source of highly allergenic pollen. Their pollination takes place over a long period, starting between December and February, depending on the geographical area, with cypress and cedar in southern France, and ending in late June or early July with chestnut. Cypress pollen allergy is a winter pollinosis responsible for intermittent rhinoconjunctivitis and, more rarely, asthma.
Additional non-allergenic triggers (cigarette smoke, strong odors, irritating fumes, air pollution, cold temperatures, high humidity) should also be avoided or controlled whenever possible.
Dosage: 5 granules of each in the evening at bedtime.

Homeopathy is a form of alternative medicine that uses plant- and mineral-based remedies to treat everyday illnesses and ailments. For over 200 years, this practice has proved itself worldwide as an effective method of preventing and treating many illnesses, including allergic rhinitis.
Allergic rhinitis, also known as hay fever, is caused by an allergic reaction to substances such as dust, pollen or dust mites. They manifest as frequent sneezing, nasal congestion, red, swollen eyes and a runny nose. Although antihistamines are often used to relieve symptoms, they can cause side effects such as drowsiness and confusion.
Homeopathy, on the other hand, is a safe and natural option for relieving the symptoms of allergic rhinitis. Homeopathic remedies are selected according to each patient's individual symptoms, which means they are case-specific. What's more, they are generally free of side effects and can be used safely in both children and adults.
One of the most commonly used homeopathic remedies for allergic rhinitis is Allium cepa, which is obtained from the onion. This remedy is particularly effective in relieving frequent sneezing and nasal congestion. Sabadilla remedy is also often used to treat allergic rhinitis, particularly in people who experience violent sneezing and feel better when outdoors.
As well as relieving the symptoms of allergic rhinitis, homeopathy can also be used to prevent the condition. For example, the remedy Natrum muriaticum is often used to boost the immune system and help prevent allergic reactions. Similarly, the remedy Arsenicum album can be used to boost the body's defenses and help prevent allergic rhinitis.
It is important to note that homeopathy should not be used as a substitute for appropriate medical treatment. If you suffer from allergic rhinitis or any other health condition, it is advisable to consult a doctor or qualified health professional.
