Large-leaf sage is a member of the Lamiaceae family, which produces an essential oil rich in thujone. This plant grows on limestone soils in the Mediterranean region. It is a perennial, branched sub-shrub up to 70 cm tall, woody at the base and highly aromatic. It is the sacred herb of the Latins, praised by Dioscorides and Galen for its emmenagogue and tonic properties. The genus Salvia comes from the Latin "salvare".

Officinal Bigleaf Sage has a multitude of pharmacological properties that are beneficial to health, including :

  • Antibacterial: It acts effectively against a wide range of bacteria, making it a valuable ally in the treatment of bacterial infections.
  • Antifungal: Effective against fungi responsible for skin and fungal infections.
  • Antiviral: Helps fight viruses responsible for viral infections, strengthening the immune system.
