What is the lymphatic system, and how is it organized?
The lymphatic system is an accessory vascular system that complements the blood circulatory system. It performs three essential functions: maintaining tissue fluid balance (returning excess interstitial fluid to the blood), transporting fats absorbed in the intestine (chyle), and supporting immunity (filtering pathogens and the maturation of immune cells).
