Venous insufficiency is one of the most common chronic conditions. It is characterized by poor circulation of the blood, causing heavy legs , swelling (especially in the ankles), pain, varicose veins , cramps or itching. In severe cases, the disease can be responsible for ulcers mainly localized on the legs.
Varicose veins are swollen and painful veins with an unsightly effect with their tortuous paths, these varicose veins are the most typical and recurring symptom of venous insufficiency . 20 to 30% of populations in Western countries are affected by varicose veins.
The blood circulating in the veins of the lower limbs shows difficulty in returning to the heart. This phenomenon is most often due to a loss of elasticity and tone of the veins, as well as a dysfunction of the valves located on the venous wall which are intended to prevent reflux, or, in other words , to help blood flow back to the heart.
