What is the Mepilex Up Silicone-Coated Hydrocellular Dressing used for?

The Mepilex Up hydrocellular dressing provides remarkably effective care for exudative wounds. It conforms perfectly to the body’s contours thanks to its exceptional conformability, while ensuring high absorption of exudate, whether low- or high-viscosity. By maintaining a controlled moist environment, it promotes rapid healing while significantly reducing the risk of skin maceration. Thanks to its ability to balance moisture, it protects the surrounding skin and minimizes the occurrence of secondary complications.

This dressing features patented Safetac® technology—a soft silicone layer that gently adheres to dry skin without sticking to the wound itself. This intelligent design allows the dressing to be removed painlessly, thereby reducing physical and emotional stress for patients. It prevents trauma during dressing changes, which preserves the quality of the perilesional skin.

In addition to optimal comfort, Mepilex Up provides real therapeutic value: it protects the wound from external irritants while preventing infections thanks to its semi-permeable barrier. The outer film allows water vapor to pass through but blocks liquids and bacteria, creating an ideal sterile environment for tissue regeneration.

Its absorbent polyurethane foam pad plays a central role in exudate management. It acts like a smart sponge: it absorbs excess moisture, redistributes it as needed, and maintains the wound at an optimal moisture level to accelerate the cell proliferation phase. This mechanism supports the natural skin repair process.

Mepilex Up can be used in both hospital and home care settings, particularly under the supervision of a healthcare professional. Its ease of application and ability to adapt to different anatomical locations make it an indispensable ally for acute and chronic wounds, ulcers, and pressure sores. It is gentle on even the most fragile skin and is suitable for prolonged use.

In summary, Mepilex Up is a reliable, gentle, effective, and versatile solution for managing exudative wounds. It maximizes patient comfort while effectively supporting the healing process.

How do you use Mepilex Up?

You can use Mepilex Up at home under the supervision of a healthcare professional. Start bycleaning the wound according to current medical protocols. Then carefully dry the skin around the wound. Choose the dressing size appropriate for the nature and location of the wound. For wounds with minimal exudate, allow for a 1–3 cm margin around the wound. For wounds with moderate to heavy exudate, allow for a margin of at least 5 cm.

Trim the dressing if necessary. Remove the first protective liner, apply the adhesive side to the wound, then remove the other liner. Gently smooth the dressing into place without pulling. If needed, use a fixation device or a bandage. Change the dressing before it becomes saturated, at the first signs of leakage, or according to the frequency specified in the care protocol. Mepilex Up can be used with gels or under compression bandages. Dispose of it in accordance with current environmental regulations.
