What is Mepilex Up Hydrocellular Silicone Dressing used for?

Mepilex Up hydrocellular dressing cares for exuding wounds with remarkable effectiveness. It adapts perfectly to body contours thanks to its exceptional conformability, while ensuring high absorption of exudates, whether low or highly viscous. By maintaining a controlled moist environment, it promotes rapid healing, while considerably reducing the risk of skin maceration. Thanks to this ability to balance moisture, it protects the surrounding skin and limits the appearance of secondary complications.

This dressing is distinguished by its patented Safetac® technology, a flexible silicone layer that adheres gently to dry skin without sticking to the wound itself. This intelligent contact means the dressing can be removed painlessly, reducing physical and emotional stress for patients. It avoids trauma during dressing changes, preserving the quality of the periwound skin.

In addition to optimal comfort, Mepilex Up provides real therapeutic value: it protects the wound from external aggression, while preventing infection thanks to its semi-permeable barrier. The outer film allows water vapor to pass through, but blocks liquids and bacteria, creating an aseptic environment ideal for tissue regeneration.

Its absorbent polyurethane foam pad plays a central role in exudate management. It acts like an intelligent sponge, capturing excess moisture, redistributing it where necessary, and keeping the wound at an optimal moisture level to accelerate the cell proliferation phase. This mechanism supports the skin's natural repair process.

Mepilex Up can be used both in hospital and at home, under the supervision of a healthcare professional. Its ease of application and ability to adapt to different anatomical locations make it an essential ally for acute and chronic wounds, ulcers and bedsores. It respects the most fragile skin and is suitable for prolonged use.

In short, Mepilex Up is a reliable, gentle, high-performance and versatile solution for the management of exudative wounds. It optimizes patient comfort while effectively supporting healing mechanisms.

How do I use Mepilex UP?

You can use Mepilex Up at home under the supervision of a healthcare professional. Start by cleansing the wound in accordance with current medical protocols. Then dry the periwound skin thoroughly. Choose the right dressing size for the nature and location of the wound. For lightly exuding wounds, allow for a 1 to 3 cm overhang. For moderate to profuse exudates, opt for an overhang of at least 5 cm.

Trim dressing if necessary. Remove the first protective sheet, apply the adhesive side to the wound, then remove the other sheet. Gently smooth the dressing without pulling. If necessary, use a fixation device or bandage. Change the dressing before saturation, at the first sign of leakage or according to the frequency defined in the care protocol. Mepilex Up can be used with gels or pressure bandages. Dispose of in accordance with current environmental regulations.
