What is the Si Silicon PostOp Postoperative Dressing used for?

Si Silicon PostOp Postoperative Dressing is a sterile adhesive dressing designed to protect wounds, particularly after surgery. Its ultra-soft nonwoven fabric backing provides flexibility and comfort, even on areas of the body subject to movement.

Its silicone adhesive, which is gentle on the skin, ensures a soft fit while making it easy to remove the dressing. This minimizes discomfort during dressing changes and leaves no adhesive residue on the skin. In the center of the dressing, an absorbent pad collects exudate while protecting the affected area. The surface in contact with the wound features an anti-adhesive mesh designed to minimize the dressing’s adhesion to the wound during removal.

Thanks to its flexibility, the nonwoven fabric easily conforms to the body’s contours and is particularly suitable for mobile or joint areas. The rounded corners also help minimize the risk of accidental detachment. Each dressing is protected by a silicone-coated paper that is easy to remove before application and is individually packaged in an easy-open pouch to maintain sterility until use.

The dressing is radiolucent, meaning it can be left in place during certain radiographic examinations. It is sterilized with ethylene oxide and has a pre-sterilization bacterial count of less than 100 CFU/g. Its biocompatibility has been evaluated in accordance with ISO 10993, specifically regarding cytotoxicity, allergic sensitization, and skin irritation. It is also compatible with commonly used medications and disinfectants.

Available in several sizes, Si Silicon PostOp allows you to choose a size suited to the wound’s dimensions and the area to be protected. Its design combines protection, absorbency, and gentle removal to facilitate postoperative care and regular dressing changes.

In addition, wound cleansing must be performed to ensure proper healing; many antiseptic products are available at pharmacies.

How to Use This Postoperative Dressing Correctly?

  1. Use with clean, dry hands.
  2. Clean the wound and, if necessary, use a suitable antiseptic.
  3. Apply the adhesive edge to clean, intact, and dry skin, as the adhesive strength of the adhesive side may be compromised otherwise.

The pharmacist’s advice for cleaning and disinfecting a wound

Before applying Si Silicon PostOp, start by washing your hands thoroughly. If necessary, gently clean the wound to remove any debris, then carefully dry the skin around the area to be protected.

When using an antiseptic, follow the instructions for use and avoid combining several different antiseptic products on the same wound without consulting a healthcare professional. Allow the area to dry before applying the dressing to ensure proper adhesion.

The absorbent pad should be centered over the wound, taking care not to touch the adhesive side with your fingers. Change the dressing if it becomes soiled, damp, or comes loose, or as recommended following the procedure.

If you experience spreading redness, increasing pain, unusual discharge, significant swelling, a fever, or if the wound is not healing properly, ask a pharmacist for advice or see a doctor.

FAQ

Can Si Silicon PostOp be used on a wound after surgery?

Yes, this sterile dressing is designed to protect wounds, particularly after surgery. Its absorbent pad collects exudate, while its silicone adhesive makes it easy to remove the dressing.

How often should the dressing be changed?

The dressing should be replaced when it is damp, soiled, has come loose, or when its absorbency is no longer sufficient. After surgery, you should also follow the healthcare professional’s recommendations regarding how often to change the dressing.

Why choose a dressing with a silicone adhesive?

The silicone adhesive ensures gentle adhesion to the skin and allows for more comfortable removal. It is particularly beneficial when regular dressing changes are necessary or when the skin around the wound is sensitive.
