What is Fluvermal Children's Syrup, a dewormer and antiparasitic medication, used for?

For warnings, precautions, and contraindications, please refer to the Fluvermal syrup package insert.

Fluvermal oral suspension is a medication indicated for treating children and adults with infestations caused by certain parasitic worms of the digestive tract: pinworms, roundworms, whipworms, and hookworms.

What are the symptoms caused by intestinal worms?

  • Pinworms initially cause anal itching, especially at night when the female lays her eggs. However, they can also cause sleep disturbances, restlessness, and fatigue. Sometimes, the worms can be seen in the stool or on the inside of underwear.
  • Although rare in France, roundworms are significantly more harmful, as they cause coughing, abdominal pain, and vomiting. They can also lead to diarrhea, irritability, fatigue, and weight loss. Allergic reactions have even been reported.

How should Fluvermal 2% antiparasitic deworming syrup be used to eliminate worms from the digestive tract?

The dosage for the over-the-counter Fluvermal Syrup is the same for children and adults. It depends on the type of worm causing the infestation.

Pinworms: 1 measuring spoon as a single dose. The dose may be repeated 15 to 20 days later to completely eliminate the infestation.
Strict personal hygiene measures (cleaning under the nails, etc.) and clothing hygiene must accompany the treatment to eliminate the risk of reinfestation. It is also important to strictly follow the dosage instructions for this medication to ensure effective treatment of pinworm infection. In addition, naturopathic doctors recommend using Allium Ursinum-based deworming suppositories—a natural dewormer—as a preventive measure at each lunar phase change.

Children putting their soiled fingers in their mouths explains the potential for pinworm transmission within the same family and for children to self-infect by scratching their anus. Ingested pinworm eggs release larvae in the child’s stomach, which migrate to the intestine and develop into adult parasites in less than a month.

Ascaris, trichocephalosis, hookworm infection: 1 measuring spoonful morning and evening for 3 days.

  • FLUVERMAL is available as flubendazole tablets and an oral suspension.
  • In all cases, follow the doctor’s prescription.

Method and Route of Administration for Fluvermal Syrup

  • Oral administration.

Advice from your expert pharmacist on medication treatments for pinworms

How to treat children with syrup to get rid of pinworms?

  • Pinworms primarily affect children. They spread the eggs to one another. An infected child who has scratched their anus and then failed to wash their hands can touch another child. If that child puts their fingers in their mouth, they can become infected with pinworm eggs. Infection can also occur through contaminated food.
  • To get rid of pinworms, medication must be taken, specifically Fluvermal syrup. This should be accompanied by washing sheets, pajamas, and underwear, as these items may contain eggs.
  • It is essential to treat the entire family of an infected person and to repeat the medication two to three weeks after the first dose, to ensure that all the worms have been eliminated (eggs that have been swallowed and hatch in the intestine can survive for several days when exposed to the air).
