Celery essential oil (Apium Graveolens) has tonic and antispasmodic properties. It is hepatocyte stimulant, digestive tonic, eupeptic, carminative, cholagogue, calming and sedative. It is a venous decongestant, a urinary antiseptic and an anti-pigment.
Phthalides are preventive against certain chemo-induced gastric cancers, the essential oil is anti-mutagenic and reduces the formation of DNA adducts by aflatoxin B1. 3-n-Butylphthalide reduces the accumulation of beta-amyloid protein, with potential action in Alzheimer's disease.
This essential oil is used in the following therapeutic indications:
- Hepatic and renal failure
- Varicose veins, hemorrhoids
- Asthenia, depression, anxiety
- Insomnia, nervous disorders
- Cystitis, gout, renal detoxification
- Foul breath, mild hepatic failure, gas
- Senile spots, "old age"

Use and dosage of Celery Essential Oil (Apium Graveolens) Phytosun aroms
Anti-pigmentation action type senile old age spots; Dilute 3% celery essential oil in apricot kernel vegetable oil. Apply 3 times a day.
Composition of Celery Essential Oil (Apium Graveolens) :
Monoterpenes : major limonene (fruits 60 to 70%, roots 9-30%), beta-pinene, myrcene, trans-ocimene (leaves)
Sesquiterpenes : beta-selinene (10 to 30%) and alpha-selinene
Phthalides (5 to 15%): 3-n-butylphthalide, sedanolide, senkyunolide-N, senkyunolide-J
Coumarin ethers : ombelliprenin, celerine, apigravin
Nerolidol, d-carvone, cis-limonene oxide
