KENDIX Aciclovir 5% Herpes labial cream 2g

This drug is a powerful antiviral . It blocks the multiplication of the herpes virus within infected cells .
It is used in the treatment of herpes labialis (also called "cold sores").

Description of KENDIX Aciclovir 5% Herpes labial cream 2g

Aciclovir itself is a pharmacodynamically inactive compound. After penetration into cells infected with the herpes simplex virus (HSV), aciclovir is transformed into the active form , aciclovir triphosphate. This conversion is catalyzed by the HSV thymidine kinase, an enzyme essential for virus replication . HSV thus synthesizes its own antiviral agent. The affinity of aciclovir for viral DNA polymerase is 10-20 times higher than its affinity for cellular DNA polymerase.
Aciclovir thus selectively inhibits viral enzyme activity. Viral DNA polymerase incorporates aciclovir into the DNA of the virus.

Directions for use and dosage

  • The cream should be applied to infected lips 5 times a day, approximately every 4 hours, avoiding nighttime application.
  • Apply the cream to existing or beginning lesions as soon as possible after the onset of the infection.
  • Treatment should be continued for 5 days . If after 5 days the healing is not complete, the treatment can be continued for another 5 days.

Our advice and opinions from pharmacy experts

Herpes: how to prevent recurrences?

If you have been infected with the cold or genital herpes virus, you will have to get used to its presence: it remains for life in the body, inside the lymph nodes. He falls asleep for several weeks or even years, but under the influence of certain factors, he can wake up.
Attacks can be triggered by anxiety, stress, fatigue, menstruation, fever, unhealthy diet, skin irritation ... If you want to successfully avoid a new flare, try to identify what, in you, can cause a seizure. You will then be able to react accordingly.

It is therefore important to act on all these causes, and, as far as possible:

  • Eat a balanced, varied and healthy diet,
  • Learn to manage stress,
  • Get enough rest,
  • Practice regular physical activity,
  • Avoid any prolonged exposure to the sun or the transition from very hot to very cold: it is often when going to winter sports that cold sores and herpes from the nose reappear.

ADVICE / HEALTH EDUCATION

Cold sores or herpes labialis are due to an infection caused by a virus called Herpes simplex . After a primary infection, the virus persists in the body without causing symptoms.

On the occasion of an event such as fatigue, menstruation, fever, emotion or sun exposure, the virus can sometimes be reactivated and cause the appearance of vesicles (blisters) in a bouquet around the lips, called pimples. fever. These vesicles are contagious until the appearance of crusts, sign of healing.

There are early warning signs located in the usual place of the lesion, which usually result in a burning sensation and / or tingling sensation.

These signs are important to know:

· it is from their appearance that we must start the treatment that prevents viral multiplication and can prevent or limit the development of cold sores,

· it is also from their appearance that the hygiene rules given in the precautions for use must be respected, in order to reduce the risk of transmission of the virus.

On the other hand, aciclovir can not act on viruses that persist in the latent state in the body and aciclovir does not prevent the occurrence of recurrence after the interruption of treatment.
