What is Docteur Valnet Tropical Basil Organic Essential Oil used for?
Tropical basil essential oil has antelmintic and insecticidal properties. It is neuroregulatory, positivizing (warming action) and antispasmodic. It is an essential oil that normalizes intestinal flora. It is anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-oxidant and antifungal. It is also a venous and prostate decongestant, an antiviral, and a digestive and hepatobiliary tonic.
Basil or Ocimum basilicum (family Lamiaceae) is about 30 cm high. It raises its stem to the rays of the sun, to which it offers its delicious heart-shaped leaves. Originally from India, it has become acclimatized in the south of France, where it has become an essential aromatic (for making the famous pistou!). Renowned for its beneficial effect on digestion, it soothes nervousness and restores energy and joie de vivre.
Tropical Basil (Ocimum basilicum) essential oil is derived from the plant's aerial parts and has a range of pharmacological properties that justify its use in phytotherapy and aromatherapy.
Antispasmodic
- The presence of linalool interferes with the release of acetylcholine, thereby reducing muscle spasms.
- Interferes with calcium channels, reducing striated muscle contraction.
- Exerts a local anesthetic action.
- Outperforms Spasfon in potency, offering notable antispasmodic activity on the autonomic nervous system and spasmolytic action on the intestine.
Analgesic and anti-inflammatory
- Linalool's action on opioid receptors gives the oil an analgesic capacity similar to that of opioids.
- Carrageenan's ability to reduce edema highlights its anti-inflammatory potential, which is effective in rheumatoid arthritis and arthritis, but not in osteoarthritis.
Antimicrobial and antiparasitic
- In vitroantibacterial spectrum against Campylobacter jejuni, E. coli, Listeria monocytogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, and certain strains of Pseudomonas.
- Anti-parasitic activity against Giardia lamblia, Leishmania amazonensis and lice.
- Antifungal activity against Candida albicans.
- Insecticide: Methylchavicol is toxic to various insect pests, including Lasioderma serricorne and Oryzaephilus surinamensis.
Effects on the central nervous system
- Linalool induces a stimulating effect on learning and memory via nicotinic receptors.
- Sedative properties, moderating motor activity and promoting sleep.
- Anticonvulsant, it reduces glutamate release and NDMA receptor activity, contributing to an antiepileptic effect.
- An anti-stress and nerve-balancing agent, it can calm hypertension and invigorate asthenia.
- At low doses, the oil is tonic and neurotonic, but this effect can be reversed at higher doses.
Other properties
- Cholagogue and liver decongestant.
- Anti-allergic, useful in a variety of local allergic conditions.
- Antiviral, notably in the context of viral hepatitis.
- Anthelmintic, fighting intestinal parasitic infections.
- Helps normalize intestinal flora.
- Stimulates the digestive and hepatobiliary systems.
