Our brands Compresses

Need to care for a wound, protect a burn or clean a sensitive area? Compresses are a simple but essential part of the skin's healing process. At Soin-et-Nature, our selection includes sterile and non-sterile compresses, woven and non-woven, dry and impregnated, to suit every need. Soft, absorbent and well-tolerated, they help prevent infection, promote healing and provide maximum comfort, even on fragile skin.

Where can I buy sterile or non-sterile compresses for wound care?

A compress is a loosely woven piece of fabric(gauze) generally made of hydrophilic cotton threads. Sometimes they are made of non-woven cotton. It is used for medical purposes. It has multiple uses, above all in wound care. It can be used to apply antiseptics or saline solution. It can absorb liquids (blood, lymph) and is used to make dressings. It can be sterile, non-sterile or with added healing, disinfectant or haemostatic products.

Sterile compresses in individual sachets are used to clean and protect wounds hygienically. Sterile, aerated and woven from pure cotton yarn, this hydrophilic gauze has good air permeability. Soft and absorbent, these compresses are suitable for cleansing and covering wounds, and absorbing liquids/fluids. The compress ensures good fluid retention and high absorption speed.

Non-sterile compresses

Non-sterile compresses are designed for light wounds and superficial wounds. They can be used to clean, disinfect and cover wounds. They also facilitate the absorption of exudates. Non-sterile compresses won't stick to wounds. You can choose disinfectant or healing models to accelerate wound healing.

Woven compresses

Woven compresses are usually recommended for wound treatment. They are easier to handle for cleaning and disinfecting wounds. Its hydrophilic properties are more highly developed than the non-woven model. It can therefore be placed directly on a wound.

Non-woven compresses

Non-woven compresses are mainly used to hold dressings in place. They enable dressings to be covered and held securely, even those with staples or threads. Indeed, they have the advantage of not catching on the latter. They're also softer and won't scratch the skin.

Why use compresses for wound care and healing?

Medical compresses are versatile and indispensable devices for wound care, whether for superficial wounds, surgical wounds or post-operative care. Used by healthcare professionals and at home, they play a key role in cleaning, protecting and healing skin lesions. Available in a wide variety of sizes, materials and shapes, they adapt to a wide range of needs, ensuring safe and effective care.

Wound cleansing

Compresses are used to debride wounds (remove dead or infected tissue) and cleanse the affected area, promoting a clean, healing environment. When soaked with antiseptics or saline, they help to eliminate impurities and pathogens.

Exudate absorption

Exuding wounds produce fluids which, in excess, can delay healing and increase the risk of infection. Absorbent compresses effectively manage these secretions, maintaining an optimal water balance on the wound surface.

Protection against contamination

By forming a barrier between the wound and the external environment, compresses protect against bacteria, dust and other potential contaminants, reducing the risk of infection.

Promoting healing

Some compresses, particularly those impregnated with gel or active substances, contribute directly to tissue repair by moisturizing the wound and stimulating natural healing processes.

Applying treatments

Compresses can also be used to apply ointments, antiseptics or other therapeutic agents to a specific area.

Which compress to choose according to wound type and skin sensitivity?

The choice of compress depends on several factors:

  1. Nature of the Wound: Open wounds require sterile compresses, while non-infected wounds can be treated with non-sterile compresses.
  2. Exudation level: A highly exudative wound will benefit from absorbent pads, while a dry wound will require a hydrogel pad.
  3. Skin sensitivity: Fragile or sensitive areas should be treated with non-woven compresses to avoid irritation.
  4. Therapeutic purpose: Impregnated or active compresses are recommended to accelerate healing or manage infections.

Modern compresses not only protect the wound, they also play an active role in promoting healing. By maintaining an optimal moisture balance, they accelerate tissue regeneration while reducing the risk of infectious complications. Innovations such as compresses impregnated with active substances enable a more targeted and effective approach to the treatment of chronic or complex wounds.
