When should you use this honey balm on wounds and burns?
Urgo Honey Healing Balm is a balm designed for the treatment of everyday wounds and burns. Its formula contains 40% medical-grade honey, combined with hypoallergenic medical-grade lanolin and vitamins C and E, in a base that remains soft on the skin.
When applied to the wound, the balm creates an environment conducive to healing. The honey absorbs fluids seeping from the wound, while the oily base maintains the moisture the skin needs to regenerate. It is this environment—neither dry nor soggy—that promotes healing.
It is used on superficial wounds: cuts, scrapes, and abrasions from a bicycle fall or a scraped knee. It is also suitable for first- and second-degree burns—those that leave the skin red and sensitive or cause a clear blister after contact with a dish straight from the oven, an iron, or boiling water. Its texture soothes the affected area and moisturizes the skin around the wound.
The formula is suitable for adults, children, and infants, making it a convenient item to keep in the family first-aid kit, whether at home or on vacation. It is also used to treat chronic wounds, such as ulcers.
Apply the balm to a clean wound. We recommend using the Elastoplast Wound Spray for this: when sprayed onto the wound, it cleans it without the need to rub the already sensitive edges, leaving the surface ready for a thin layer of balm.
How do you apply this healing balm to a wound?
Directions for Use
After washing your hands and cleaning or disinfecting the wound, apply a thin layer of balm to the wound and the surrounding area using a sterile gauze pad, then cover with a bandage if necessary. Reapply approximately every 24 to 48 hours, once the balm has been absorbed.

Our expert advice on Urgo honey balm for burns
When treating a burn, the first step is never to apply the balm. First, cool the area under lukewarm water for about 15 minutes, remove rings and bracelets before the skin swells, and leave blisters intact: they protect the skin underneath. Apply the balm afterward, to cooled skin. Before doing any of this, take a few seconds to assess whether the burn falls under any of the situations that require medical attention: proper triage is what matters most.
A thin layer is sufficient: a thick layer won’t help it heal faster; it will slide under the bandage and soil the adhesive edge. Also, keep track of how long it’s been. A first-degree burn usually heals in 5 to 6 days, a superficial second-degree burn in about ten days; a burn that has not improved beyond these timeframes should be examined by a healthcare professional.
FAQ
Can I use Urgo Honey Healing Balm if I have diabetes?
Yes, diabetes is not listed among its contraindications. The balm is applied in a thin layer to the skin and is not ingested: it is not affected by dietary sugar intake.
Can I substitute Urgo Honey Healing Balm with regular cooking honey?
No. Medical-grade honey is processed to remove bacteria and spores that food-grade honey may naturally contain. Regular honey has not undergone this treatment and is not intended for application to broken skin.
Why does the color of my Urgo Honey Healing Balm vary from one tube to another?
Honey is a natural ingredient: depending on the batch, the balm may range from yellow to brown, vary in thickness, and contain small sugar crystals. It may also become liquid when exposed to high heat. These variations in appearance do not affect its use or effectiveness.
