Description of Euphon Sore throat Hoarseness 70 Sucking lozenges

Traditionally used to relieve sore throat and / or temporary hoarseness .

Sore throat is most often caused by cold or flu viruses. These viruses trigger inflammation at the site of infection (along with pain, redness, and swelling), signaling the body to send white blood cells and antibodies to infected tissue to fight viruses. The pain in the throat is a direct result of this inflammation. Unfortunately, swallowing causes additional friction and pain because the irritated tissue rubs against each other.

Our advice and opinions from pharmacy experts

To calm your sore throat, it is also advisable to:

  • consume natural vitamin C (Acerola ) when tired;
  • use a humidifier in your home (a humidity level of 40 to 50% is recommended);
  • maintain an indoor temperature of 20 ° C;
  • drink a lot of water: consume many small quantities of cold liquids (possibility of sucking ice cubes);
  • breathe fresh air regularly while covering yourself if it is cold outside.

In addition, alcohol consumption must absolutely be avoided; avoid smoking tobacco or staying in smoky rooms; avoid air conditioners that deliver cold air and dry the mucous membranes.

What are the causes of sore throat?

Most often a viral infection : in approximately 90% of cases. Indeed, many viruses can be responsible for nasopharyngitis (colds) and viral angina. These are most often adenovirus type viruses, influenzae virus, parainfluenzae, or much more rarely viruses like that of infectious mononucleosis, herpes (during the first infection in particular).

A bacterial infection more rarely: it is then generally due to a Streptococcus type A.

Other infectious angina : in fact apart from angina which is called red (often viral) and white (often bacterial with a type A streptococcus) there are other forms of angina much rarer with ulcers, pseudomembranes or false membranes in the back of the throat which can be of viral or bacterial origin and which require additional laboratory examinations prescribed by a doctor.

GLOSSARY (summary)

antibiotic
A substance capable of blocking the multiplication of certain bacteria or killing them. The spectrum of an antibiotic is the set of bacteria on which this product is usually active. Unlike bacteria, viruses are not susceptible to antibiotics. The first antibiotics were extracted from mushroom cultures: penicillium (penicillin), streptomyces (streptomycin). They are currently manufactured by chemical synthesis. Antibiotics are divided into families: penicillins, cephalosporins, macrolides, tetracyclines (cyclines), sulphonamides, aminoglycosides, lincosanides, phenicolates, polymyxins, quinolones, imidazoles, etc.
Inappropriate use of antibiotics may lead to the development of resistance: use antibiotics only on medical prescription, adhere to its dosage and duration, do not give or advise another person an antibiotic prescribed for you .

pharyngitis
