Advice from your expert pharmacist

What hides a sore throat ?

Sore throat is a fairly common symptom that can have several origins. In most cases, it is pharyngitis, that is to say an overall inflammation of the pharynx (the mucosa located at the crossroads of the mouth and digestive tract), often of viral origin. A sore throat can also be caused by red or white sore throat, which is an acute infection of the tonsils. It can be of viral or, more rarely, bacterial origin (10 to 25% of cases in adults, 25 to 40% in children over 3 years old).

What are the different sore throats

Sore throat is pain in the back of the throat . This pain can be located in the larynx, pharynx, tonsils or more rarely in the epiglottis.

The term pharyngitis   means inflammation of the pharynx which causes irritation or drying of the throat and swallowing then becomes painful. The term   nasopharyngitis   also included involvement of the nasal passages (with an associated cold). This sore throat can be accompanied by other symptoms such as: fever, glands in the neck, runny nose, difficulty swallowing, redness in the throat, a hoarse voice, cough ...

How to treat a sore throat

  • If the sore throat is viral, cough should be treated with a natural active ingredient such as Maxilase syrup.
  • If no complications, spontaneous healing in 4 to 5 days.
  • If your sore throat   does not regress after 5 days of self-medication,   two days for a child and if severe fatigue occurs, consult your doctor in the coming days.
