Precautions for Use

A large number of cats are infected with the feline herpesvirus (FHV-1), which causes one of the most severe respiratory diseases in cats: feline infectious rhinotracheitis.
Symptoms vary:

• upper respiratory tract involvement (rhinitis, cough)
• ocular involvement (conjunctivitis, chemosis, keratitis)
• systemic symptoms (fever, anorexia, lethargy).

After the initial infection, the herpesvirus establishes itself in the trigeminal ganglion and, in 80% of cases, remains there for the duration of the infected cat’s life. The feline population is therefore the primary viral reservoir, as the virus is fragile and does not survive more than 12 to 18 hours in the external environment. Reactivation of the virus in these latent carriers frequently occurs in response to stress (pregnancy, parturition, exposure, illness, environmental changes, etc.) or following a corticosteroid injection.
