What is Mepilex Border Flex Carré Self-Fixing Siliconized Hydrocellular Dressing used for?

Mepilex Border Flex Carré relieves, protects and optimizes healing. This self-fixing siliconized hydrocellular dressing creates a moist environment favorable to tissue regeneration, while limiting skin trauma. It acts as a veritable cocoon for damaged skin, absorbing exudates while protecting the wound from external contaminants. Its soft silicone-based Safetac® technology ensures atraumatic adhesion, meaning that removal of the dressing causes neither pain nor tearing of fragile skin. It is ideal for people with thin, vulnerable or fragile skin.

This new-generation dressing meets the complex needs of chronic or acute exudative wounds, such as pressure sores, venous ulcers, skin tears and post-operative wounds. Its multi-layer absorbent pad effectively retains secretions while preventing maceration of peripheral skin. Thanks to its dynamic fluid management, Mepilex Border Flex acts intelligently: it adapts to the amount of exudate and offers prolonged protection, reducing the frequency of dressing changes.

The outer layer of the dressing plays an essential role. It forms an impermeable barrier to water and bacteria, while allowing the skin to breathe thanks to its vapor permeability. So you protect the wound while ensuring optimal oxygenation. This external film enhances safety of use, particularly for ambulatory patients or in hospitals. It can also be used in the shower, without compromising the integrity of the device.

Mepilex Border Flex can also be used as a preventive measure, particularly for bedridden patients or those at risk of developing pressure sores. By covering sensitive areas (sacrum, heels), it acts as a protective barrier against repeated friction and moisture. It's a reliable solution for reinforcing pressure sore prevention, complementing standard care: mobilization, hydration, nutrition, change of position.

This dressing can also be used in synergy with gels for dry or necrotic wounds. It promotes gentle detersion by maintaining the moisture needed to soften fibrinous tissue. It integrates easily into complex care strategies, providing versatility, performance and safety.

In short, Mepilex Border Flex soothes, protects, absorbs, optimizes healing and improves patients' daily lives. It combines technology, comfort and efficiency in an intuitive format for both professionals and family caregivers.

How to use Mepilex Flex Carré dressing?

To apply Mepilex Border Flex correctly, start by choosing the right size for the wound or area to be protected. Choose a shape that covers the wound well, with an overlap of 1 to 2 cm on the intact skin. This excess ensures optimal fixation and protects the periwound skin. If you're using it as a preventive measure, position it over the area at risk of pressure sores or lesions, such as the heels or sacrum.

Clean the wound according to current medical protocol, then carefully dry the surrounding skin. Peel off the first protective film and apply the adherent side to the area. Then remove the other part of the film and gently smooth the edges of the dressing to avoid wrinkles. Never pull on the bandage. Leave in place for up to 7 days, unless the wound condition requires an earlier change. This dressing can be used under a compression system if necessary. It is normal to observe a temporary increase in exudate or wound enlargement during initial use, as the moist environment facilitates tissue cleansing. For preventive use, regularly inspect the protected area in accordance with medical recommendations.
