Our advice and expert opinions in pharmacy

Heavy legs, tingling, cramps, varicose veins ... In summer, we all want lightness, well-being and rest. Only things get complicated when, under the effect of the heat, our legs become heavy and painful ...

What is the cause of this poor return of blood to the veins ?

This phenomenon is explained by a poor return of blood to the veins. When you walk all day or the veins are dilated from the heat, the blood does not come back properly to the heart and stagnates in the legs. The pump system, initiated naturally by the soles of the feet and the calf muscles when walking, functions poorly. In some professions (waitresses, hairdressers or flight attendants, heavy legs are common.
The fight against heavy legs is being waged on several fronts. Tips and tricks to spare your legs on a daily basis and boost your venous tone without exerting too much effort.

  • In the morning, massage your legs from the bottom up with specific treatments such as gels, lotions or foams, to prepare your skin to defend itself against the heat. Red vine, ruscus, horse chestnut and menthol extracts are very effective active ingredients in the fight against swelling.
  • Walk on the beach. The cool water at the seaside will be even more beneficial for your heavy legs!
  • Instead, opt for loose, comfortable clothing.
  • Consume fresh vegetables and fruits, because their vitamins and antioxidants tone and protect the veins!
  • Finish your shower with a jet of cold water on your legs, from the bottom of the calves to the top of the thighs.
  • Once in bed, raise your mattress. The blood will thus circulate much better than flat.
