What is Dr. Valnet's Organic Italian Helichrysum Essential Oil used for?

Italian Helichrysum essential oil has anticoagulant and anti-phlebitic properties. It has powerful anti-hematoma activity (greater than that of arnica). It promotes healing, relieves spasms, and reduces inflammation. This oil also helps clear congestion and breaks down mucus.

Italian Helichrysum (Helichrysum italicum— Asteraceae family) is a plant that thrives in sandy, sunny soil; its small yellow flowers do not wilt, hence its other name: “immortelle.” Italian helichrysum yields a highly valuable essential oil through distillation. The essential oil of Italian helichrysum (Helichrysum italicum), commonly known as “immortelle,” is recognized for its many pharmacological properties, particularly in the areas of blood circulation and wound healing.

This essential oil is distinguished byits anticoagulant and blood-thinningeffects, thereby promoting arterial microcirculation. It also acts as a vascular spasmolytic, with a vasodilatory and coronary-dilating effect that may be beneficial in pre-infarction situations. Furthermore, its fibrinolytic properties help break down blood clots.

Immortelle oil is known for its rapid action against bruises, surpassing that of arnica when applied topically. The presence of betadiones, particularly italidiones I, II, and III, explains its anti-ecchymotic activity through a fibrin-chelating mechanism. Clinical studies highlight its effectiveness in reducing postoperative edema and bruising, partly due to the hemostatic action of curcumene.

When applied to the skin, Immortelle essential oileffectively promotes the healing of bruises, wounds, and post-surgical lesions. In vitro, the oil demonstrates inhibition of cyclooxygenase and 5-lipoxygenase enzymes, as well as pro-inflammatory factors such asinterleukin (IL-1b) and TNF-α. These effects highlight its potential in managing acute and chronic inflammation.

The oil exhibits significant antibacterial activity, particularly by reducing bacterial resistance to antibiotics, including against multidrug-resistant bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli. It also possesses antiviral properties, with activity noted against theherpes virus, and antifungal properties against various strains of Candida albicans.

  • Mucolytic and expectorant: Promotes the expulsion of mucus and reduces secretions in the respiratory tract.
  • Hepatoprotective: Useful in cases of mild liver dysfunction.
  • Antidiabetic and cholesterol-lowering: Involved in regulating blood sugar and lipid profiles.
  • Anti-aging: Inhibits enzymes that break down collagen and elastin, contributing to skin protection.
  • Anti-allergic: Potentially useful in the treatment of allergic reactions.
  • Antiproliferative and antimutagenic: Useful in preventing abnormal cell proliferation, especially when used in synergy with other essential oils.

The use of Italian Helichrysum essential oil requires expertise in phytotherapy and aromatherapy, given the potency of its active ingredients. Therapeutic recommendations must be tailored according to specific indications and individual tolerance.

We also offernoble laurel essential oil from Dr. Valnet, a laboratory specializing in aromatherapy, at the best price in our online pharmacy.

Immortelle essential oil, symbol of love and sustainability Immortelle essential oil, symbol of love and sustainability

Immortelle, whose botanical name is Helichrysum italicum, belongs to the Asteraceae family. Its essential oil is obtained by distilling its aerial flowering parts. Immortelle is found in Corsica in the taxon"ssp italicum" for coastal, scrubland and scree plantations. The taxon"ssp serotinum", which is more continental, is practically non-existent in Corsica. Helichrysum italicum subsp. italicum is the Italian immortelle proper. Helichrysum…
