    Bravecto cat Spot-on anti-tick flea MSD

    Bravecto is a veterinary drug used to treat infestations with ticks and fleas in dogs and cats. It can be used as part of the management of allergic dermatitis for flea (allergic reactions to flea bites). Bravecto contains the active substance fluralaner.

    The active substance in Bravecto the fluralaner, acts as a "ectoparasiticide". This means that it kills parasites, such as fleas and ticks, which live on the skin or in the fur of animals. To be exposed to the active substance, fleas and ticks must be present on the skin of the dog or cat and begun to feed the animal.
    The fluralaner kills fleas and ticks that have ingested blood from the dog or cat by acting on the nervous system. It blocks the normal flow of charged chloride particles (ions) that enter the nerve cells or leaving, particularly those associated with gammaaminobutyrique acid (GABA) and glutamate, two substances that transmit messages between
    nerves (neurotransmitters). This results in uncontrolled activity of the nervous system and then to paralysis and death of fleas and ticks. The fluralaner kills fleas before they lay eggs, thus helping to reduce contamination of the environment of dogs or cats.

    using advice

    For cats more than 12.5 kg body weight, use a combination of two applicators that is closest to the body weight.

    - Method of administration
    Step 1. Open the bag and remove the applicator, immediately before use. To open, the applicator should be held vertically (end up), by the base or the rigid upper part under the cap. Turn tip "twist and use" completely in the direction of clockwise or counterclockwise direction. The tip remains on the applicator; it is not possible to remove. The applicator is open and ready for the application when one feels that the seal is broken.

    Step 2. The cat should stand or lying, back to horizontal, for easy application. Place the tip of the applicator at the base of the cat's head.

    Step 3. Squeeze the applicator gently and applying the entire contents directly on the cat's skin. The product must be applied in a point at the base of the skull on cats up to 6.25 kg of body weight, and at two points on cats whose body weight is greater than 6.25 kg.
    For optimal control of tick infestation, the treatment must be repeated every 8 to 12 weeks depending on the species of tick.
    Bravecto kills fleas in 8 hours and ticks in 12 hours in dogs. In cats, Bravecto kills fleas within 12 hours and ticks in 48 hours.
    Bravecto is obtained with a prescription.

    Our Pharmacy expert advice

    The effectiveness of Bravecto against fleas and ticks was examined in laboratory studies and in field studies.
    In a European field study of 561 dogs infested with fleas and / or ticks, the effects of Bravecto tablets were compared with those of another product, Fipronil, which kills fleas and ticks, applied as solution for spot-on to the skin of dogs. The main measure of effectiveness was the reduction in the number of chips and ticks in dogs
    infested for 3 months after receiving the treatment. The field study showed that Bravecto was effective in reducing the number of fleas and ticks in dogs with a proven infestation by ticks or fleas and its effect against fleas and most tick species persisted for 3 month.
    Two other European field studies involved dogs and cats infested with fleas and / or ticks and compared the effects of Bravecto solution for spot-on to fipronil spot-on. Bravecto was effective against fleas and ticks for up to 12 weeks after treatment, and was as effective as fipronil in terms of percentage of dogs and cats
    and homes free of fleas and ticks.
