Bondi Sands Self-Tanning Mousse is a dihydroxyacetone (DHA)-based body mousse enriched with aloe vera and vitamin E that tans the skin without sun exposure. Bondi Sands Self-Tanning Mousse moisturizes the skin and is applied with a mitt; it is available in Light to Medium or Dark shades.
Bondi Sands Self-Tanning Mousse is a body mousse that tans the skin without sun exposure. Its active ingredient, dihydroxyacetone (DHA), is a sugar that reacts with proteins in the outermost layers of the epidermis to form brown pigments: the color appears gradually and then fades as the skin naturally renews itself. It’s part of our line of self-tanners for a sunless glow, featuring lightweight formulas designed for application on the body.
It comes in two shades. The Light to Medium shade is designed for fair to medium skin tones and provides a subtle tan: it’s also the best shade to start with when trying self-tanning for the first time. The Dark shade is suitable for medium to olive skin tones and provides a deeper tan. The pigments in the formula make the mousse visible as soon as it’s applied, which helps you identify areas that have already been covered.
Its water-based formula, enriched with aloe vera juice, glycerin, panthenol, and vitamin E, moisturizes the skin during application. Its lightweight foam texture glides effortlessly over the legs and arms.
When applied with a glove, it’s easy to spread in long strokes over large areas, allowing you to control the intensity with each session. In the fall, when the summer tan begins to fade in spots, it helps maintain an even, golden complexion without further UV exposure; it’s also ideal before a night out or a vacation to restore color to legs that have remained pale.
The evenness of the result depends mainly on the tool used: when applied with bare hands, the mousse stains the palms and is more likely to leave streaks. For this reason, we recommend the reusable Bondi Sands applicator glove, which protects your hands from staining and spreads the mousse in a thin layer. The mousse settles on the glove’s surface without being absorbed by the fabric; simply rinse the glove with lukewarm water after each use.
Instructions for Use
On clean, exfoliated skin free of moisturizer, apply the foam to an applicator glove and spread it in long strokes over the legs, arms, and body; then use the remaining product on the glove for the hands, elbows, knees, and feet; for a more intense color, apply a second coat 30 minutes later. Leave on for 6 to 8 hours, then rinse with lukewarm water without soap and pat dry.

The result depends on preparation before application: exfoliate preferably the day before, so your skin has time to settle, focusing on the elbows, knees, and ankles, where the color tends to build up. At the counter, the mistake we see most often is applying too much product to the hands and feet: what’s left on the glove is more than enough for these areas, which always turn darker than the rest of the body.
The key point in this guide is the first precaution on the list: whether in fall or summer, choose sunscreen based on your natural skin tone, never on the shade achieved with the tanning foam. To make the tan last, lukewarm showers and a gentle cleanser wear it down much less than repeated exfoliation.
When can I get dressed after applying Bondi Sands Self-Tanning Mousse?
As soon as your skin feels dry to the touch. Loose-fitting clothing minimizes friction on a tan that hasn’t fully developed yet.
How long does the tan from Bondi Sands Self-Tanning Mousse last?
Generally five to seven days, depending on how quickly your skin renews itself. Skin that’s prepared before application and then moisturized regularly maintains a more even tan, which fades without forming patches.
Can I use Bondi Sands Self-Tanning Mousse on my face?
The mousse can be applied to the face in a thin layer. Self-tanning formulas specifically designed for the face are better suited for skin prone to breakouts, as they’re formulated not to clog pores.
What’s the difference between Bondi Sands Self-Tanning Mousse and a self-tanning lotion?
The mousse is lightweight, dries quickly, and is easy to apply with a glove. A lotion is creamier and more moisturizing; in its gradual-tanning version, it’s used daily as a skincare product and builds color more slowly.
