Drug presentation and action

URGO Allergie Desloratadine 5 mg tablets is an H1 antihistamine indicated for the symptomatic treatment of allergic rhinitis and chronic idiopathic urticaria in adults and adolescents over 12 years of age. Available without prescription from our online pharmacy, it contains desloratadine, an active substance recognized for its targeted action against allergic symptoms.

Desloratadine belongs to the class of non-sedating H1 antihistamines. It acts by selectively blocking H1 receptors for histamine, a molecule released by the body during an allergic reaction. Histamine is responsible for the main allergic symptoms: sneezing, rhinorrhea (runny nose), nasal pruritus, itchy eyes, watery eyes, skin rashes and hives. By inhibiting its action, URGO Allergie Desloratadine 5 mg reduces these symptoms without inducing significant drowsiness at recommended doses.

For noses prone to allergies, it may be useful to use the specially adapted Stérimar manganese nasal spray.

This H1 antihistamine treatment is indicated for seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever) or perennial allergic rhinitis (allergy to house dust mites, dust, animal hair), as well as forchronic idiopathic urticaria, when the diagnosis has been established by a health professional. Its effect generally lasts 24 hours, allowing once-daily use.

Detailed composition

Each film-coated tablet of URGO Allergie Desloratadine 5 mg contains :

  • Active substance: Desloratadine 5 mg per tablet.

  • Excipients: microcrystalline cellulose, pregelatinized starch, colloidal anhydrous silica, magnesium stearate, hypromellose, titanium dioxide and other components necessary for formulation.

The galenic form is a film-coated tablet for oral administration. Tablets are generally small, making them easier to swallow.

Commercial presentation: box containing 7 film-coated tablets, suitable for short-term treatment or initial assessment of therapeutic response.

Health education advice

a) What is allergy and what is an allergic reaction?

Allergy is an excessive reaction by the body to substances it considers harmful, known as allergens. Allergens are the factors and substances that trigger allergy and the associated disorders.

Allergic reactions are triggered by repeated, intensive contact with allergens.

The allergic reaction refers to the set of symptoms that appear minutes or hours after exposure to allergens. These allergens may come from plants, animal hair, food, dust mites, molds or substances of occupational origin.

This allergic reaction causes the body to release substances such as histamine, which are responsible for the symptoms experienced.

As with any illness of an allergic nature, it's important to consult a doctor at least once. HE OR SHE WILL DETERMINE THE NEED FOR AN ALLERGY TEST.

b) How to recognize allergic rhinitis, seasonal or non-seasonal allergic conjunctivitis and acute localized urticaria?

Allergic rhinitis is characterized by the following symptoms: successive sneezing, colorless nasal discharge, nasal obstruction (blocked nose), itching and tingling of the nose. It can be accompanied by irritation of both eyes (tearing, redness), throat and nose.

A distinction is made between :

- Seasonal allergic rhinitis or hay fever: occurs every year at the same time of year, when the concentration of pollens in the air increases. Allergies to pollens are very common, and usually first appear during adolescence. They recur every year at the same time, depending on the presence of the pollen(s) responsible. However, you are not allergic to all pollens, but to one or more of them.

- Perennial allergic rhinitis occurs all year round, and most often depends on household allergens such as dust mites, molds and pets.

- Allergic conjunctivitis is characterized by tearing and stinging of both eyes.

- Acute localized urticaria is characterized by itching, redness and swelling.

c) Practical advice

Eliminating the allergen (eviction) is the best way to eliminate or reduce allergy symptoms.

For household allergens: it is essential to take measures to reduce the presence of the allergen:

- mattresses and pillows should be completely encased in anti-dust mite plastic covers. The bed base, unless slatted or metal, should be encased in plastic. All bedding should be washed twice a month at 60°C if possible;

- The bedroom should be regularly aired and cleaned;

- on the floor, avoid bedspreads and carpets;

- avoid pets;

- during the pollen season, it is possible to reduce exposure to pollens:

o in your garden, diversify your planting, avoiding the most allergenic species (cypress, cedar, birch, etc.);

o avoid mowing the lawn yourself during the pollen season;

o garden preferably with protective goggles and mask.

Undetermined frequency: aggressiveness, behavioural disorders, depressed mood, photosensitivity, increased appetite, weight gain, dry eyes.

LEXICON

alcohol

General name for a family of substances that can be mixed with water and fats. The most common alcohol is ethyl alcohol (ethanol), but there are many other alcohols, such as methanol and butanol. The degree of an alcoholic solution corresponds to the volume of pure alcohol present in 100 ml of solution, bearing in mind that 1 balloon glass of wine or 1 half of beer (25 cl) contains around 8 g of alcohol.

When alcohol is used as an antiseptic, an unpleasant-smelling denaturant is often added to prevent it from being drunk. Contrary to popular belief, 70° (or even 60°) alcohol is a better antiseptic than 90° alcohol.

See article: Alcohol dependence

allergy

Skin reaction (itching, pimples, swelling) or general discomfort following contact with a particular substance, the use of a medicine or the ingestion of a food. The main forms of allergy are eczema, urticaria, asthma, angioedema and allergic shock (anaphylactic shock). Food allergy can also lead to digestive problems.

antecedent

A condition that has been cured or is still evolving. Antecedents can be personal or familial. Antecedents are the history of a person's health.

antihistamine

Drug that counteracts the various effects of histamine. There are two main types: H1-type antihistamines (anti-allergic) and H2-type antihistamines (gastric antiulcer). Some H1-type antihistamines are sedative, while others do not affect alertness.

anaphylactic shock

Allergic shock manifested by a sudden drop in blood pressure, due to extreme dilation of the blood vessels. It occurs after contact with an allergenic substance (food, insect sting, injection or absorption of medication).

convulsions

Involuntary contractions limited to a few muscles or generalized to the whole body. They are due to suffering or excessive stimulation of the brain: fever, intoxication, lack of oxygen, brain damage. Convulsions may be due to an epileptic seizure or high fever in young children.

diarrhea

The strict medical meaning of diarrhea is "the emission of stools that are too frequent and abundant". In fact, common sense equates diarrhea with the notion of frequent, liquid stools. Normally, stools are pasty, but the emission of liquid or barely-formed stools, with no associated pain or particular disorder, is not pathological. Diarrhea occurs when liquid stools are passed repeatedly throughout the day, and the need for them is urgent or painful.

Many drugs can accelerate intestinal transit and make stools more liquid, without this undesirable effect being a real cause for concern.

Antibiotics can alter the digestive flora, essential for digestion, and cause diarrhoea, which is more or less uncomfortable but benign. The effect may appear immediately or after a few days' treatment. A serious and exceptional form of diarrhea, pseudomembranous colitis, may be observed after antibiotic treatment; this condition is characterized by the emission of mucus and false membranes (resembling flaps of skin) associated with abdominal pain; constipation may replace the initial diarrhea. Pseudomembranous colitis may occur several days after antibiotic treatment has stopped, and requires urgent medical advice.

See Diarrhea and gastroenteritis in adults or Diarrhea and gastroenteritis in children.

undetermined frequency

The frequency of an adverse reaction is described in official documents as follows:

  • Very frequent: seen in more than one patient in 10
  • Common: occurring in less than one patient in 10 but more than one patient in 100
  • Uncommon: occurring in less than one patient in 100 but more than one patient in 1000
  • Rare: occurs in less than one patient in 1000 but more than one patient in 10000
  • Very rare: occurs in less than one patient in 10,000
  • Undetermined frequency: adverse reaction too rare to be able to state its frequency, or concerning a very old drug for which no studies are available to quantify its frequency of occurrence.
hepatitis

Inflammation of the liver. It may be due to a drug, a virus, alcohol or another cause.

Viral hepatitis usually recovers without treatment. Unlike hepatitis A and E, which are almost always benign, hepatitis B and C can become chronic: the virus persists in the body of the patient, who remains contagious but does not necessarily suffer liver damage. Chronic hepatitis is said to be active when the virus continues to destroy liver cells, as evidenced by an increase in transaminases in the blood.

See articles: Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and Hepatitis E

mood

In its medical sense, mood is synonymous with morale. A mood disorder can take the form of depression or euphoric excitement, for example.

kidney failure

Inability of the kidneys to eliminate waste products or drugs. Advanced renal failure does not necessarily mean a reduction in the quantity of urine eliminated. Only a blood test and creatinine level can reveal this condition.

palpitations

Abnormal perception of irregular heartbeats.

See article: Palpitations.

Quincke

Allergic reaction generally affecting the face. Quincke's edema is characterized by swelling that can be spectacular. The eyelids are often the first to be affected. In rare cases, when the swelling reaches the throat, respiratory problems may occur and urgent treatment is required.

allergic reaction

Reaction caused by the body's hypersensitivity to a drug. Allergic reactions can take a variety of forms: urticaria, angioedema, eczema, measles-like rash and so on. Anaphylactic shock is a generalized allergic reaction that causes a sudden drop in blood pressure.

See article: Can you be allergic to medication?

rhinitis

Inflammation or infection of the nose and nasal cavities. Rhinitis can be infectious (bacterial or viral) or allergic in origin. Allergic rhinitis includes seasonal rhinitis (hay fever) and perennial rhinitis, which often persists throughout the year (due, for example, to dust mites, animal hair or chemical agents).

See article: Colds (rhinitis)

sedative
  • Soothing, calming.
  • Medication belonging to different families: anxiolytics, hypnotics, analgesics, cough suppressants, antiepileptics, neuroleptics, etc., but also antidepressants, H1 antihistamines, antihypertensives. Sedatives can cause drowsiness and increase the effects of alcohol.
symptom

Disturbance experienced by a person suffering from an illness. The same symptom may reflect different illnesses, and the same illness does not necessarily give rise to the same symptoms in all sufferers.

transaminases

Enzymes measured in the blood, whose levels rise in certain cases of hepatitis. They appear in blood tests under the names SGOT and SGPT or ASAT and ALAT.

urticaria

Rash of pimples on the skin, most often of allergic origin. The pimples resemble nettle stings and vary in color from pale pink to red. Hives can appear or disappear within minutes, causing intense itching; they can be localized or generalized to the entire skin surface. When urticaria occurs on a daily basis and no cause is found, we speak of spontaneous chronic urticaria.

vertigo

A symptom that may refer to an impression of loss of balance (common sense) or, more strictly, a sensation of spinning around oneself or the environment (medical sense).

See article: Vertigo.
