NaturOphta® Macula, a dietary supplement aimed at maintaining normal vision and protecting cells against oxidative stress. On sale in pharmacies.

What is NaturOphta Macula capsules used for?

NaturOphta® Macula , presented in a box of 180 capsules, i.e. a supply for three months, is a food supplement specifically intended for eye health . At the heart of its formula, we find a combination of nutrients carefully selected for their role in maintaining vision and their protective action against oxidative stress.

What are the main ingredients of NaturOphta® Macula?

One of the key ingredients in this dietary supplement is fish oil . Rich in omega 3 , and more particularly in DHA , it is well known for its multiple health benefits. In the context of vision, DHA is a major constituent of retinal cell membranes. Its contribution therefore contributes to the maintenance of normal vision. Additionally, the fish oil used in NaturOphta® Macula has undergone an ultra deodorization treatment to remove all fishy odors and flavors.

In addition to fish oil, NaturOphta® Macula contains marine phospholipids . These molecules are an essential component of cell membranes and play an important role in their optimal functioning.

Lutein and zeaxanthin , two carotenoids, are also present in this formula. These two molecules are major antioxidants of the eye and more specifically of the macula, the central part of the retina, responsible for the vision of details. Their intake through food is essential, because our body cannot synthesize them.

NaturOphta® Macula also includes several vitamins and trace elements . Among them, zinc and DHA contribute to the maintenance of normal vision. In addition, copper , selenium , vitamins C and E and zinc help protect cells against oxidative stress. This phenomenon, due to an imbalance in favor of free radicals (unstable molecules), is involved in cellular aging and can affect the eyes.

How does NaturOphta® Macula contribute to eye health?

In the end, NaturOphta® Macula represents a complete food supplement for the health of your eyes . Its formula has been developed taking into account the latest scientific studies on eye aging. Consuming it regularly, as part of a balanced diet, can help you take care of your eyes and preserve your vision .

Our expert advice for optimal eye health

Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) is a degenerative eye disease, primarily affecting the macula. The macula, located in the center of the retina, is responsible for central vision and detail. AMD is the leading cause of vision loss in people over the age of 50 in industrialized countries.

This pathology is manifested by a progressive degeneration of the macula, leading to a deterioration of central vision, while leaving intact peripheral vision. It results in symptoms such as image distortions (straight lines that appear wavy), a decrease in the vision of details and colors, or the appearance of a dark spot in the center of the visual field.

There are two main forms of AMD:

  1. Dry or atrophic AMD : This is the most common form, affecting around 85 to 90% of people with AMD. It is characterized by the appearance of small white spots, called drusen, in the macula. The progression of this form is usually slow and can take several years. However, it can evolve into the wet form.
  2. Wet or exudative AMD : This form is less common, but more serious and evolves more quickly. It is characterized by the abnormal growth of blood vessels under the macula, which can leak and cause significant damage.

There is no cure for AMD, but several approaches can slow its progression or lessen its effects. For example, intraocular injections of anti-VEGF drugs can be used to treat wet AMD. In addition, a diet rich in antioxidants, omega-3 and certain vitamins can also help slow the progression of the disease.

Finally, prevention plays a key role in the management of AMD. Modifiable risk factors include smoking, sun exposure, poor diet, obesity, and high blood pressure. Quitting smoking, good UV protection, a balanced diet rich in antioxidants, and proper control of underlying health conditions can help reduce the risk of developing AMD.
