The Mona Lisa Nt Cu375 Ro Copper IUD is an Intra Uterine Device (IUD) composed of a T-shaped polyethylene body, a copper wire wound around the vertical rod. The copper surface is 375 mm ² . Dimensions: Mona Lisa Cu375: 19.5 mm ± 1 mm wide and 34.8 mm ± 0.2 mm long.

• If properly inserted, the Mona Lisa IUD is effective and provides good job security for women at low risk of sexually transmitted infections.
• The lateral branches are flexible and shaped so that the IUD adheres to the fundus without, however, distorting the uterine cavity or obstructing the fallopian tubes.
• Mona Lisa prevents pregnancy by interfering with fertilization.
• The contraceptive effect is probably based on a sterile inflammatory reaction with a foreign body that takes place in the uterus.
• There is an intrauterine and intra-tubal increase in white blood cells, prostaglandins and enzymes. These changes influence the mobility of sperm in the genital tract and thus limit their fertilization capacity. The number of sperm in the fallopian tubes, the site of fertilization, is reduced in women who use a copper IUD compared to those who do not use a copper IUD. Therefore, the essential mode of action of this method is probably based on a change in the quality of sperm and eggs before fertilization.

Composition

The Mona Lisa Nt Cu375 device is an Intra Uterine Device (IUD) composed of:

- a body with 2 flexible polyethylene side arms measuring 35 mm in height for the Cu375.

- a copper wire wrapped around the rod of 0.4mm diameter giving a diffusion surface of 375mm2,

- a nylon monofilament attached to the rod, allowing control and removal of the device. The device is made radio opaque by the addition of barium sulfate.

MONA LISA is placed in an inserter fitted with a measuring ring. MONA LISA Cu375-RO devices are suitable for uteri between 6 and 9 cm in length. It is recommended by the manufacturer to replace these devices every 5 years.

Precautions for use

Mona Lisa® NT Cu375 Ro should not be used in the event of:

1. Suspected or proven pregnancy

2. Morphological anomalies of the uterine cavity (congenital or acquired uterine malformations, fibroids deforming the uterine cavity, tumors, polyps)

3. Proven or suspected cervical or endometrial neoplasia

4. Undiagnosed genital bleeding

5. History of pelvic inflammation less than 3 months old, sexually transmitted bacterial infections (STIs) in the 3 months preceding the operation; current or recurrent genital tract infection, postpartum or post-abortion puerperal infection

6. Multiple sexual partners at high risk for STIs

7. Copper IUDs are contraindicated in patients with Wilson's disease or copper hypersensitivity
