What is Bepanthen 5% Baby Ointment Bayer used for?

For information on warnings, precautions for use and contraindications, please consult the Bepanthen ointment leaflet.

This non-prescription medication is recommended for the treatment of skin irritation, in cases ofdiaper rash (red buttocks) in infants. Effective from the first signs of diaper rash, Bepanthen Pommade is perfectly adapted to babies' skin. Bepanthen Pommade repairs, soothes and protects babies' irritated bottoms, while letting the skin breathe to prevent maceration. Bepanthen Pommade contains 5% Dexpanthenol.

An ointment is mainly formulated with fatty substances (known as a water-in-oil emulsion). This ointment is generally used on wet lesions.

How do I use Bepanthen 5% Baby Ointment 100 g Bayer for diaper rash?

During the first year of life, few children are spared "red bottoms" or diaper rash. Diaper rubbing, maceration, diaper changes spaced too far apart... These are just some of the factors that contribute to the appearance of this irritation, which may be benign but is very quickly upsetting for both baby and mother.

With Bepanthen ointment, discover the right gestures and good habits to soothe your little red skins.

In practice, apply Bepanthen ointment with a gentle massage every time you change your baby, as soon as the first signs of diaperrash appear.

Bepanthen Pommade 's creamy texture makes for gentle application.

Bepanthen Pommade is non-sticky and easy to clean.

Bepanthen Pommade doesn't mask irritated areas after application, so you can easily follow up on your child's treatment.

Don't forget to change your child's diaper regularly, especially after a bowel movement, to preventdiaper rash recurring.

Your baby's skin is fragile for several reasons:

  • It may be more permeable to foreign substances and the sun's rays, due to a higher body surface/weight ratio.
  • Sweat abnormalities in the first months of life can influence internal temperature regulation.
  • Your child's skin surface is very large in relation to his weight. As a result, the substances you use to care for your child may end up in high concentrations in his or her body.
  • Only care products suitable for paediatric use are recommended. Avoid exposing children to sunlight.

Bepanthen ointment is adapted to the particularities of your baby's skin. You can use it once or several times a day, especially during diaper changes.

Bepanthen Pommade is an adapted solution containing :

* A healing active ingredient: Dexpanthenol (or provitamin B5), which provides the elements needed for skin regeneration.
* A fatty phase containing an excipient, Protegin X, which protects Baby's bottom from external aggressions (urine, stools, rubbing).

In the cells, Dexpanthenol is rapidly converted into pantothenic acid, which plays a key role as a component of coenzyme A. As part of the cellular repair process, it promotes cell regeneration and skin epithelial repair.

Bepanthen Pommade's semi-occlusive consistency also allows baby's skin to breathe. Ointments that are too occlusive can lead to maceration, aggravating your baby's diaper rash. With its specific formula, Bepanthen Pommade lets your baby's skin breathe, promoting skin repair.

Bepanthen Pommade's original formula is well-suited to babies' fragile skin.

What are the side effects and contraindications?

Bepanthen® Pommade should not be used in cases of infected or oozing dermatitis, or in cases of known hypersensitivity to any of its ingredients.

Health education advice for changing babies

Skin irritations correspond to an alteration in the skin's natural protective barrier, leading to redness, possibly associated with peeling or cracking. They are due to the action of irritants such as cold, mechanical rubbing, chemical products, etc.
Diaper rash is an irritation of the skin around the diaper area. The skin is red and then cracks.

How can diaper rash be prevented?

  • To preventdiaper rash, keep your baby's bottom clean, dry and cool.
  • Change your baby's diaper often, and leave his or her bottom exposed to the air as much as possible. This allows the skin to dry out.
  • At each diaper change, clean your baby's bottom thoroughly with lukewarm (but not hot) water, not forgetting the little folds.
  • Let the bottom dry thoroughly before putting on another diaper, preferably in the open air or with a clean absorbent towel, without rubbing to avoid the risk of irritation.

What to do in case of diaper rash?

  • Avoid fitting diapers too tightly, so as to let your baby's skin "breathe".
  • Leave your baby without a diaper as much as possible. Fresh air dries out moist, irritated skin and helps erythema heal.
  • Apply a protective, repairing ointment to your child's bottom after every diaper change.

Consultez l'article : Dermatite atopique (eczéma atopique)

nourrisson
