Our advice and opinions from pharmacy experts

In the body, there are several pigments present in our food: lycopene, betacarotene ... In the center of the retina , there are thus two particular pigments: lutein and zeaxanthin . These have an essential role, because they protect the macula (center of the retina) from oxidation by free radicals and damage caused by light. Their main sources are green vegetables and orange or yellow fruits (clementines, pumpkins, corn, etc.). A study has demonstrated optimal protection against cataracts for a consumption of 5 to 6 g per day of these pigments. But it's like eating cabbage or spinach every day.
