When should you use Seresikan for your dog weighing more than 8 kg?
Seresikan Clément Thékan 4.50 g + 2.03 g is a veterinary medication for dogs weighing more than 8 kg, available as a 70-cm collar. It combines two active ingredients: imidacloprid, an insecticide in the chloronicotinoid class, and flumethrin, a synthetic pyrethroid. These are released slowly and continuously from the collar’s matrix at low concentrations and then spread over the entire surface of the skin and coat.
Seresikan is intended for dogs infested with or at risk of mixed infestations by fleas, ticks, lice, and sand flies, and is indicated only when these parasites are present simultaneously. For fleas, it treats flea infestations and prevents reinfestation by fleas (Ctenocephalides canis, Ctenocephalides felis) thanks to its insecticidal activity lasting 7 to 8 months. It protects the dog’s immediate environment against the development of flea larvae for 8 months and can be part of the treatment strategy for flea bite allergic dermatitis (FBAD) previously diagnosed by a veterinarian.
For ticks, the collar prevents reinfestation by ticks (Ixodes ricinus, Rhipicephalus sanguineus) through its acaricidal (lethal) and repellent (anti-feeding) effects, beginning within 2 days of applying the collar and lasting up to 8 months. Against Dermacentor reticulatus, prevention of reinfestation relies on the acaricidal (lethal) effect, with the same onset time and duration. It is effective against larvae, nymphs, and adult ticks, and also treats infestations with chewing lice (Trichodectes canis).
Finally, the collar acts on the vectors of certain diseases. It reduces the risk of transmission of the pathogens Babesia canis vogeli and Ehrlichia canis, thereby reducing the risk of canine babesiosis and canine ehrlichiosis for 7 months, thanks to its acaricidal and repellent effects on the tick vector Rhipicephalus sanguineus. It also reduces the risk of transmission of the pathogen Leishmania infantum for up to 8 months, thereby reducing the risk of canine leishmaniasis, thanks to its repellent activity against sand flies. In both cases, the effect is indirect, resulting from the product’s activity against the vectors. To compare the different options, consult our guide to choosing a flea and tick collar for dogs or cats.
We recommend combining it with Beaphar Voxical XL Dewormer for Dogs over 17.5 kg. Fleas serve as intermediate hosts for certain intestinal worms in dogs: the collar acts on the fleas externally, while the oral dewormer acts on the worms internally. The two products do not share any active ingredients. For dogs weighing 8 to 17.5 kg, the Voxical version for dogs under 20 kg is the appropriate choice.
How do you put this flea and tick collar on your dog?

For topical use only: one 70-cm collar per dog weighing more than 8 kg, to be fastened around the neck.
- Remove the collar from the protective pouch just before use, unroll it, and check that no remnants of the plastic fastening tab remain inside.
- Adjust the collar around the neck without tightening it too much: you should be able to fit two fingers between the collar and the neck.

- Wear the collar continuously for 8 months, then remove it.

Precautions
- Do not treat puppies younger than 7 weeks. Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to the active ingredients or to any of the excipients.
- For dogs weighing more than 8 kg only. Never put this collar on a cat.
- Use is not recommended in pregnant or lactating dogs.
- Ticks already present before application may not be killed within 48 hours and may remain attached: remove them at the time of application. It is still possible for a tick to attach itself after treatment; therefore, the transmission of infectious diseases by ticks cannot be completely ruled out under unfavorable conditions.
- The collar’s repellent and insecticidal efficacy against sand flies varies: bites remain possible, and the transmission of Leishmania infantum cannot be completely ruled out. Apply the collar just before the start of the sand fly activity period and keep it on continuously throughout the entire risk season.
- If there is no risk of simultaneous infestation by fleas, ticks, and lice, a product with a narrower spectrum of activity is preferable. Do not combine this product with another topical antiparasitic without consulting a veterinarian.
- The collar is water-resistant and remains effective if the dog gets wet, but avoid shampooing and prolonged, intense exposure to water, which can reduce its duration of effectiveness. Do not allow a dog wearing the collar to swim in bodies of water.
- Other animals in the household may be a source of reinfestation and should be treated as necessary with an appropriate product. In a heavily infested home, treat sleeping areas with an appropriate insecticide and vacuum regularly.
- If neurological symptoms (unsteady gait, tremors, seizures) or a severe skin reaction occur, remove the collar and consult your veterinarian.
- Accidental ingestion may cause adverse effects, including neurotoxicity. Do not allow young children to play with the collar or put it in their mouths. Keep the pouch in the box until ready to use. In case of accidental ingestion, seek medical attention immediately and show the doctor the package insert or label.
- People allergic to the collar’s ingredients or to iron oxides: Avoid all contact with the collar and the treated animal. The collar may, in very rare cases, irritate the skin, eyes, or respiratory tract: if irritation occurs, rinse the eyes or wash the skin with cold water and soap, then consult a doctor if symptoms persist.
- Avoid prolonged contact with the collar, both when applying it and while it is being worn, especially during pregnancy. Wash your hands with cold water after applying the collar. Dogs wearing the collar should not sleep in their owners’ beds, especially those of children.
- Imidacloprid and flumethrin may harm aquatic organisms; imidacloprid is toxic to bees. Do not dispose of the collar or any pieces of it in sewers, waterways, or household trash: use collection programs for unused veterinary medications.
- Keep the pouch in the outer packaging until ready to use. Read the package insert carefully before use.

Our expert advice on Seresikan for dogs weighing more than 8 kg
In the south of France and around the Mediterranean, timing is just as important as the product itself: the key is to take precautions against sand flies, as the collar must be put on before the start of their active season and worn continuously until the end. Putting the collar on in the middle of summer or removing it for a beach vacation leaves a window of risk that nothing can make up for. If you’re traveling with your dog to a high-risk area, ask your veterinarian what additional protection you should use.
Weigh your dog before your first purchase: for dogs weighing 8 kg or less, the 38 cm collar is the correct size—not a shortened version of the larger model. Then note the date it was put on: after eight months, the collar must be removed and replaced, even if it still appears to be in good condition.
FAQ
Does the Seresikan collar lose its effectiveness on my dog over time?
During periods of heavy shedding, a slight temporary decrease in effectiveness is possible, as some of the active ingredients attached to the fur are lost. The collar continues to release its active ingredients: full effectiveness is restored without additional treatment or replacement. However, repeated shampooing and bathing can shorten the duration of effectiveness.
My dog has redness or is losing hair under the Seresikan collar: what should I do?
Redness, hair loss, itching, or scratching around the neck are rare reactions that usually disappear within one to two weeks; temporarily removing the collar may be recommended. A more severe reaction (eczema, sores, bleeding) warrants removing the collar and consulting a veterinarian.
My Seresikan dog collar is covered in a fine white powder: is this normal?
Yes. The Seresikan collar is light gray and may have slight traces of white powder when removed from the package. This is normal and does not affect its use.
