When should you take Digestconfort Total after a heavy meal?
Digestconfort Total tablets are a dietary supplement that combines a blend of five digestive enzymes—lactase, alpha-amylase, protease, cellulase, and lipase—along with two plant extracts (caraway and ginger), fermented papaya, and calcium. Each tablet consists of two layers: the first rapidly releases the enzymes, while the second provides a delayed-release of the plant extracts and calcium. It is part of our selection of digestive enzyme supplements.
Digestive enzymes are proteins that break down food into smaller components: amylase breaks down starch, protease breaks down proteins, lipase breaks down fats, lactase breaks down milk sugar, and cellulase breaks down plant fiber. Calcium supports the normal function of digestive enzymes; two tablets provide 533 mg, or 66.6% of the Reference Intake.
Caraway is a plant traditionally recognized for aiding digestion and promoting healthy bowel movements. Ginger, whose extract provides 5 mg of gingerols in this formula, supports the normal functioning of the intestinal tract. Fermented papaya powder and spirulina round out the formula.
Digestconfort Total is intended for adults on days when the digestive system is put to the test: holiday meals, business lunches that drag on, dinners eaten on the go, or meals swallowed too quickly between appointments. These are the meals that leave you feeling heavy and uncomfortable in the hours that follow.
Enzymes work during the meal, breaking down the food itself; the gut flora, on the other hand, requires long-term support. For this reason, we recommend Ergyphilus Confort by Nutergia, which combines five strains of lactic acid bacteria with acacia fiber and is taken as a course of treatment, regardless of mealtimes. It contains no calcium, no enzymes, and none of the herbs found in Digestconfort Total.

- Not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women.
- Not recommended in cases of bile duct obstruction, gallstones, or other bile duct disorders; liver disease or liver failure; or achlorhydria (absence of stomach acid).
- Not recommended if you are allergic to caraway or other plants in the Apiaceae family (fennel, celery, anise, cilantro, dill), birch pollen, mugwort, or wormwood.
- Not recommended for individuals with allergies to papaya or latex, or to kiwi, avocado, or banana—allergies to these fruits are often associated with a latex allergy.

- Not recommended for individuals with hypercalcemia, excess calcium in the urine, or calcium kidney stones. Consult a doctor before use if you have kidney failure.
- If you are taking anticoagulants or antiplatelet agents, consult your doctor before use.
- Calcium reduces the absorption of certain oral medications: antibiotics in the cycline or quinolone families, bisphosphonates (for osteoporosis treatment), thyroid hormones, iron salts, and estramustine. Allow at least two hours between taking these medications and this supplement.
- If you are being treated with a digitalis or a thiazide diuretic, do not take this supplement without consulting a doctor.
- Do not combine with another calcium-rich dietary supplement or one containing digestive enzymes without consulting a healthcare professional. Take into account the calcium provided by calcium carbonate-based antacids.
- Heartburn, belching, nausea, bloating, or constipation may occur: if you experience any adverse effects, stop taking the supplement and consult a healthcare professional.
- Digestive problems that persist for more than two weeks or worsen require medical attention.
- Do not exceed the recommended daily dose.
- This product is not a medication. Dietary supplements should be used as part of a healthy lifestyle and are not a substitute for a varied and balanced diet.

Our Experts’ Advice on Digestconfort Total for Digestion
People choose this supplement for their stomach, forgetting that it’s also a source of calcium. Yet it’s this calcium that requires the most commonly overlooked precaution: spacing out medications. At the counter, we first ask which medications are taken at lunchtime, even before discussing digestion; the gallbladder comes next.
Digestconfort Total is meant to accompany a heavier-than-usual meal; it does not correct eating habits. A lunch eaten in ten minutes is still a lunch that hasn’t been chewed properly: putting down your fork between bites already does part of the work. Nor does this supplement replace pancreatic enzymes prescribed by a doctor: pancreatic insufficiency requires treatment; it cannot be compensated for with over-the-counter medication.
FAQ
Can I take Digestconfort Total if I have trouble digesting lactose?
Lactase, the enzyme that breaks down milk sugar, is one of the five enzymes in the blend, but its quantity is not specified, and Digestconfort Total is not designed as a lactase supplement. Anyone who thinks they may be lactose intolerant should talk to their doctor, who can confirm whether or not the intolerance is present and recommend a specific solution.
Where do the enzymes in Digestconfort Total come from?
They are produced through the fermentation of microorganisms: food molds for amylase, lactase, lipase, and cellulase, and a bacterium for protease. They are therefore not of animal origin, unlike pancreatin, which is extracted from the pancreas of pigs or cattle.
How long can I take Digestconfort Total?
There is no maximum duration for taking this supplement. It can be taken as needed—on days when you have large meals—or continuously for the duration of one box.
