How to facilitate transit in a natural way?

Intestinal transit is an essential aspect of the digestive and overall health of the body. To naturally facilitate transit, there are several simple tips and habits to adopt.

First, it's important to drink enough water throughout the day. Water helps hydrate the stool, making it softer and easier to pass. In addition, regular consumption of dietary fiber is essential for healthy transit. Fiber is found in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes, and helps stool move through the digestive tract. In addition to water and fiber, it is also important to have a balanced and varied diet , avoiding fatty foods, processed foods and refined sugars. Foods high in fat can slow transit, while processed foods and refined sugars can cause imbalances in the gut flora, disrupting transit.

Regular physical exercise can also help ease transit. Physical activity stimulates the muscles of the digestive tract, thereby promoting stool movement. In addition, stress can also affect bowel movement. It is therefore important to take the time to relax and to practice relaxation activities, such as yoga or meditation. Finally, it is essential to respect the urge to have a bowel movement and to immediately go to the toilet when the urge arises. Holding a bowel movement can cause constipation and make bowel problems worse.

In short, to naturally facilitate intestinal transit, it is important to drink enough water, eat fiber-rich foods, avoid fatty foods, processed foods and refined sugars, practice regular physical activity, to relax and respect his desire to have a bowel movement.

What can slow transit?

Slowed or disrupted transit can have many different causes. Here are some of the main causes:

  • Unbalanced diet : A diet low in fiber and high in fats and refined sugars can disrupt transit by slowing the movement of stool through the digestive tract.
  • Sedentary lifestyle : lack of physical exercise can slow transit by weakening the muscles of the digestive tract.
  • Stress : stress can disrupt transit by affecting the functioning of the nervous system, which controls the muscles of the digestive tract.
  • Digestive disorders : Disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome, Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis can disrupt transit by causing inflammation or obstructions in the digestive tract.
  • Medications : certain medications can slow transit by disrupting the normal functioning of the digestive tract.
  • Hormonal changes : Women may experience transit disturbances due to hormonal changes, such as those that occur during pregnancy or menopause.
  • Environmental Factors : Factors such as travel, time zone changes, or disruptions in daily routine can disrupt transit by affecting the body's natural rhythm.

In sum, slowed or disrupted transit can have many different causes, ranging from diet and lifestyle to medical and environmental factors. It is important to consult a healthcare professional if transit problems persist or worsen.

What are the known benefits of psyllium?

Psyllium, also known as Plantago ovata , is an herb that offers many health benefits. Originally from Asia and the Middle East, psyllium is now widely appreciated and used for its exceptional properties. Among the most recognized benefits of psyllium is its ability to regulate intestinal transit. Rich in soluble fibre, psyllium has the particularity of swelling on contact with water, thus forming a viscous gel which facilitates the passage of stools and relieves constipation . This gentle mechanical action also helps prevent hemorrhoids and diverticulosis.

In addition, psyllium helps regulate blood cholesterol levels. Indeed, the soluble fibers contained in psyllium have the ability to capture some of the fats and sugars present in the diet, thus reducing their absorption by the body. This action helps maintain a balanced cholesterol level, helping to prevent cardiovascular disease. Finally, psyllium may also play a beneficial role for people with type 2 diabetes . The soluble fiber in psyllium helps slow the absorption of carbohydrates, which helps stabilize blood sugar levels. Thus, psyllium can be a valuable ally for people with diabetes, in addition to appropriate medical treatment and a balanced diet.

In short, psyllium is a plant with multiple virtues, in particular for digestive health, the maintenance of a healthy cholesterol level and the management of diabetes. It is important, however, to ensure that you are well hydrated when consuming psyllium, due to its high fiber content.

LEXICON (summary)

corticosteroids
Substance close to cortisone. Natural corticosteroids, necessary for the functioning of the body, are manufactured by the adrenal glands. Synthetic corticosteroids, chemical derivatives of cortisone, are used as powerful anti-inflammatory drugs.

addiction
Psychic or physical need caused by taking certain natural or medicinal substances. This state can be accompanied, at the end of the catch, of various symptoms, grouped under the term of withdrawal syndrome.

diuretics
Drug allowing an increased elimination of water by the kidneys. Most often, this loss of water follows the loss of salts caused by the drug (salidiuretic).
Diuretics are mainly used in the treatment of high blood pressure, while their mechanism of action in this disease is poorly understood. They are also prescribed in acute or chronic heart failure, edema and other more rare conditions.
These drugs cause a loss of sodium and potassium (except for some of them called "potassium sparing"). Their prolonged intake therefore requires regular control of blood potassium, to avoid the cardiac disorders that could result from hypokalemia (lack of potassium in the blood). Lack of sodium is another possible consequence, but rarer at usual dosages, from prolonged use of diuretics; it is also detected by a blood test.

fecal impaction
Stool cap in the rectum or colon. It is to be feared in the elderly or constipated, or those who remain long bedridden. It exposes to a risk of obstruction of the digestive tract.

stimulant laxatives
Laxative powerful but irritating for the digestive tract, responsible for a loss of minerals (potassium, etc.) by the body. Its prolonged use causes dependence: it is no longer possible to go to the stool without medication. In the long term, definitive lesions of the intestinal lining may appear (laxative disease).

potassium
Mineral element present in large quantities in the body.
See also: kaliemia.

torsades de pointes
Serious heart rhythm disorder, promoted by:
  • hypokalemia or situations that favor it: prolonged and severe diarrhea, repeated use of stimulant laxatives, etc.,
  • a heart too slow,
  • a visible predisposition on the electrocardiogram,
  • taking certain medications
The drugs capable of causing torsades de pointes are the following: quinidine, hydroquinidine, disopyramide, amiodarone, sotalol, ibutilide, certain neuroleptics, cisapride, diphémanil, halofantrine, mizolastine, pentamidine, moxifloxacine, erythromycin (route IV).

symptomatic treatment
Treatment that suppresses or alleviates the symptoms of a disease without attacking its cause.

heart rhythm disorders
Serious or benign abnormality of the frequency of contractions of the heart. Extrasystole is a contraction occurring just before or after a normal contraction, often perceived as a slight shock in the chest. Fibrillation is an irregular and disordered contraction. Other disorders include torsades de pointes, Wolf-Parkinson-White syndrome, Bouveret's disease, tachysystole, flutter and atrioventricular block, etc.

way
  • Path (route of administration) used to administer the drugs: oral, sublingual, subcutaneous, intramuscular, intravenous, intradermal, transdermal.
  • Set of hollow organs allowing the passage of air (airways), food (digestive tract), urine (urinary tract), bile (bile ducts), etc.
