Viatris Chlorhexidine Mouthwash 0.12% 300ml is a local antiseptic which allows to treat inflammations of the gums and infections of the mouth . This solution is a short-term treatment that effectively fights the bacteria responsible for inflammation and oral infections .

Chlorhexidine, a broad-spectrum bactericidal antiseptic belonging to the bisdiguanide family, is an oral local treatment used in the pharmacotherapeutic class of anti-infectives and antiseptics. The bactericidal activity of chlorhexidine is exerted mainly on Gram + germs, with a certain effectiveness also on Gram - germs. The low circulating concentrations of chlorhexidine detected in the blood are mainly distributed to the liver and kidneys. Indeed, chlorhexidine is weakly absorbed in the digestive tract and excreted essentially unchanged in the faeces.

When used locally orally , chlorhexidine is adsorbed on the various structures of the oral cavity (dental enamel, dentin, cementum, mucous membranes and dental prostheses) with slow desorption. This limited absorption allows local residual diffusion and thus limits the passage of chlorhexidine into the systemic circulation. In addition, the cationic nature of chlorhexidine digluconate favors its strong fixation on the skins, mucous membranes and tissues for minimal absorption. Chlorhexidine remains detectable in saliva for 8 to 12 hours.

This solution for mouthwash is reserved for adults and children over 6 years of age . The method of administration is simple: just use the contents of a 15 ml cup for each mouthwash. The recommended number of mouthwashes is 1 to 3 per day , for about one minute after meals and preferably after brushing your teeth . Before each use, it is important to brush your teeth and rinse your mouth thoroughly with water. The solution should be used pure and undiluted, and should not be swallowed. What are the side effects and contraindications?
