What is EXACTO Autotest tetanus Biosynex used for?

The Exacto® Tetanus Test is an easy and simple self-test , reliable blood sampling can be carried out at home and makes it possible to check the vaccination status of tetanus . Tetanus is a serious infection caused by a neurotoxic toxin from the bacteria Clostridium tetani. This bacterium is present in the soil or animal excrements, it is extremely resistant and can enter the body through a simple skin lesion. Once in the body, the bacteria works by releasing the tetanus toxin which acts in neurons by blocking the release of neurotransmitters and causing muscle spasms which can lead to muscle paralysis .

Tetanus is a pathology with a very poor prognosis with nearly 30% mortality rate, mainly in the elderly, unvaccinated or poorly vaccinated. Only an up- to-date vaccination can prevent tetanus from breaking out. This is because people with tetanus do not develop immunity as a result of the infection. How to properly use EXACTO Autotest tetanus Biosynex?

Test verifying protection against tetanus. Read carefully the instructions before use.

• The test should be performed with a drop of blood.
• Wash your hands in hot water to promote better circulation to the fingertips.
• Use the alcohol wipe to disinfect the tip of the finger chosen for the sample.
• Apply the lancing device to the fingertip. Release it by pressing firmly on the other end.
• Squeeze the fingertip to form a large drop of blood for collection.
• Collect the drop of blood by completely filling the pipette up to the white filter.
• Empty the contents of the pipette into the round well S of the cassette. Place three drops of diluent in the round well S on the drop of blood.

Interpretation of the result
Read the result after 10 minutes, stop reading it after 15 minutes.

• You are effectively protected against tetanus: if two bands appear. One in the control area (C) and one in the test area (T). A positive result indicates the presence of anti-tetanus toxin antibodies in sufficient quantity. However, it is advisable to check your vaccination reminders. Tetanus vaccination is mandatory in infants and boosters in childhood, adolescence and adulthood are recommended. Seek advice from a doctor.
• You are not effectively protected against tetanus: if a band appears in the control area (C) and no band appears in the test area (T). A negative result indicates the absence of anti-tetanus toxin antibodies and therefore protection against tetanus. See a doctor to get vaccinated. If the test is performed immediately following an infectious risk injury, make an appointment with the nearest Emergency Department to receive adequate care.
• The test is invalid if the band in the control area (C) does not appear, even if a band appears in the test area (T). Discard this test and perform a new test.
