What is the Medisur Stomach Pain Home Test used for?

The Medisur Stomach Pain self-test is a highly specific, easy-to-use rapid immunological test designed to detect the Helicobacter pyloriantigen instool. It helps avoid endoscopy in H. pylori-negative patients who are at low risk of having severe lesions and refers H. pylori-positive patients for endoscopic evaluation. Gastric cancer caused byH. pylori is responsible for 5,000 deaths per year in France. 

The bacterium Helicobacter pylori plays a major role in the development of gastroduodenal ulcers (95% of duodenal ulcers and 70% of gastric ulcers) and also plays a role in the carcinogenesis of stomach cancer (adenocarcinoma in more than 90% of cases).
Stomach cancer caused by H. pylori accounts for 5,000 deaths per year in France.

This test is intended for patients: 

• who regularly purchases antacids or PPIs and complains of abdominal pain or heartburn.
• In cases of a family history of gastric cancer.

How to Use the Medisur Stomach Pain Self-Test Correctly

Read the instructions carefully and in their entirety before use. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water and dry them well. Remove all items from the box and place them on a flat, clean surface. Identify each item in the kit by referring to the package insert. Open the pouch and remove the cassette. 

• Lift the toilet seat and firmly attach the adhesive strips of the collection paper to the side of the toilet bowl. Pass stool onto the collection paper.
• Unscrew the collection cap from the sample collection tube.
• Dip the rod into the stool at least 3 different spots, to a depth of 2 cm. Replace the collection cap on the sample collection tube, screw it back on, and shake vigorously.
• Hold the sample collection tube upright. Invert the sample collection tube and remove the cap. Transfer two full drops of the extracted sample into the sample well labeled (S) on the test cassette.
• Wait 5 minutes.

To read the result, refer to the instructions: 

• The test is positive if two colored lines appear under the T (Test) and C (Control) markers. The intensity of the T line may be less than that of the C line; this does not affect the result. In this case, the result indicates that anti-HP antibodies are present in the blood, and you should consult your doctor.
• The test is negative if only one colored line appears in the result window under the C (Control) mark. In this case, the result means that no anti-HP antibodies are detectable in the blood.
• The test is invalid if no line appears or if a colored band forms below the T (Test) mark without a line appearing below the C (Control) mark. In this case, the Medisur Stomach Pain Self-Test cannot be interpreted: it is considered invalid.

Precautions for Use
