The louse can survive for up to 2 days outside the scalp. The transmission of lice can therefore be done:
- directly: from head to head (via the exchange of a garment: scarf, hat, ...);
- indirectly: the louse can survive up to 36 hours outside the scalp. The transmission of lice can therefore be done via home textiles (sofa, pillows, stuffed animals, car seat, ...).
It is important not to let children scratch themselves too often, as this could lead to lesions, and, more seriously, bacterial skin infection.
