GLOSSARY

complex

A term used to describe a combination of several homeopathic remedies. Generally, the dilutions used are low: from 3 DH (Hahnemannian decimal) to 6 CH (Hahnemannian centesimal).

DH

Abbreviation for Hahnemannian decimal. It corresponds to a 10-fold dilution of a homeopathic substance (i.e., 1 part of the substance to 9 parts of water). 6 DH means that the substance (mother tincture) has undergone 6 successive 10-fold dilutions.

homeopathy

A form of treatment based on two principles: the use of substances with effects similar to the symptoms of the illness they are intended to treat, and the infinitesimal dilution of these substances.

See the articles: Homeopathic medicines

lactose

Lactose is a sugar found in milk and some of its derivatives. To digest it, the intestine must be able to secrete an enzyme called lactase. Many people lose the ability to produce this lactase in adulthood. Lactose then passes through the intestines undigested, and its presence causes intestinal discomfort: diarrhea, bloating, gas, etc. Some medications contain lactose used as an excipient (a component with no therapeutic activity). People who are lactose intolerant may experience intestinal side effects when taking this type of medication.

orodispersible

Describes a tablet that dissolves in the mouth upon contact with saliva. It can also be dissolved in a glass of water before ingestion.

symptom

A condition experienced by a person with an illness. The same symptom can indicate different illnesses, and the same illness does not necessarily produce the same symptoms in all patients.

homeopathic treatment

A treatment based on the administration of highly diluted substances of plant, animal, or mineral origin. The main principles of homeopathy are similarity (the use of substances that produce effects similar to the symptoms of the illness), infinitesimal dilution (the substances used undergo multiple dilutions), and the holistic approach (the treatment targets not a specific organ, but the individual as a whole).
