Maalox ESTOMAC PAIN 250ML BOTTLE

For warnings, precautions for use and contraindications, please consult the instructions for use.

Description

Maalox syrup is a medicine containing locally acting antacids . They work by neutralizing the acids secreted by the stomach. It is indicated in adults (from 15 years) in heartburn and acid reflux. Reserved for adults.

Antacids based on aluminum and magnesium salts are contact antacids; they decrease the degree of acidity of the gastric secretion, by their buffering capacity and by direct neutralization of the hydrochloric acid present in the stomach.
Among the different products of this class

  • Aluminum hydroxide has a significant and prolonged neutralizing power; it can cause constipation and phosphorous depletion, by uptake of food phosphates.
  • Magnesium hydroxide is a short-acting, short-acting antacid; it can cause diarrhea.

The combination of magnesium and aluminum derivatives is intended to avoid effects on intestinal transit and to add their topical and antacid actions.

Composition

  • Aluminum hydroxide 3.5 g, magnesium hydroxide 4.0 g per 100 ml of oral suspension.
  • Excipients: concentrated hydrochloric acid, citric acid monohydrate, peppermint essential oil, D-mannitol, sodium saccharin, 70% sorbitol (non-crystallizable), purified water. Preservatives: methyl parahydroxybenzoate and propyl parahydroxybenzoate.
  • Excipient with known effect: sorbitol.

Dosage

  • 1 tablespoon at the time of pain, without exceeding 6 tablespoons per day.

The duration of use is limited to 10 days.

Precautions for use

Contraindications

GLOSSARY (summary)

NSAIDs
Abbreviation for non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. Family of anti-inflammatory drugs that are not derived from cortisone (steroids), and the best known of which is aspirin.

antacids
A drug that neutralizes the acidity of gastric secretions or blocks the glands responsible for acid secretion.

antibiotics
A substance capable of blocking the multiplication of certain bacteria or killing them. The spectrum of an antibiotic is the set of bacteria on which this product is usually active. Unlike bacteria, viruses are not susceptible to antibiotics. The first antibiotics were extracted from mushroom cultures: penicillium (penicillin), streptomyces (streptomycin). They are currently manufactured by chemical synthesis. Antibiotics are divided into families: penicillins, cephalosporins, macrolides, tetracyclines (cyclines), sulphonamides, aminoglycosides, lincosanides, phenicolates, polymyxins, quinolones, imidazoles, etc.
Inappropriate use of antibiotics may lead to the development of resistance: use antibiotics only on medical prescription, adhere to its dosage and duration, do not give or advise another person an antibiotic prescribed for you .

dialysis
Process for the purification of blood in cases of severe renal insufficiency, which is essentially achieved by the use of an artificial kidney.

diarrhea
The strict medical sense of diarrhea is "emission of stools too frequent and too abundant". In fact, common sense equates diarrhea with the notion of fluid and frequent stools. Normally, stools are pasty, but the emission of liquid or barely formed stools, without pain or particular associated disorder, is not pathological. Diarrhea can occur when liquid stool emissions are repeated throughout the day and the needs are overwhelming or painful.
Many medicines can accelerate intestinal transit and make the stools more liquid, without this undesirable effect being of real concern.
Antibiotics can alter the digestive flora, essential for digestion, and cause more or less troublesome but benign diarrhea. The effect appears immediately or after a few days of treatment. A severe and exceptional form of diarrhea, pseudomembranous colitis, can be observed after antibiotic treatment; this condition results in the emission of mucus and false membranes (resembling skin flaps) associated with abdominal pain; constipation may replace the initial diarrhea. Pseudomembranous colitis can occur several days after discontinuation of antibiotic treatment and requires urgent medical advice.

inflammation
Natural reaction of the organism against an element recognized as foreign. It manifests itself locally by redness, heat, pain or swelling.

renal failure
Inability of the kidneys to eliminate waste or medicinal substances. Advanced renal insufficiency does not necessarily result in a decrease in the amount of urine excreted. Only a blood test and creatinine dosage may reveal this disease.

mucous
Tissue (membrane) that lines the cavities and ducts of the body communicating with the outside (digestive tract, respiratory tract, urinary tract, etc.).

sugar
General term for various substances of which the most widely used is sucrose. Other sugars can be contained in drugs: glucose, fructose, lactose, etc. Glucose is the sugar used by the body; it is the only one to circulate in considerable quantity in the blood.
Sweeteners (false sugar) are allowed in diabetics or people on a diet, and are very low in calories.

symptoms
Trouble felt by a person with an illness. The same symptom can translate different diseases and the same disease does not necessarily give the same symptoms in all the patients.
