When should you use GUM Ortho Aligner cleaning tablets?

GUM Ortho Aligner cleaning tablets are effervescent tablets designed for the daily care of removable orthodontic appliances: clear aligners, orthodontic trays, and retainer trays. It is part of ourdental appliance and prosthesis care line and is classified as a medical device.

When placed in warm water with the appliance, the tablet releases microbubbles that reach areas that are difficult to access with a toothbrush. Their cleaning formula helps remove stains and bad odors and helps reduce plaque buildup on the appliances.

Cleaning is done simply by soaking—no manual brushing of the aligner is required—making it an easy step to incorporate intoyour daily care routine. When used according to instructions, the tablets do not cause discoloration or damage to clear aligners.

Each tablet is individually wrapped: it fits easily into a bag or case for work, school, or travel, without exposing the other tablets to moisture.

Before putting your aligner back in, we recommend that you also clean the spaces between your teeth withthe TePe Original Interdental Brush: this ensures that the aligner rests on clean teeth.

Our expert tips for caring for orthodontic aligners

Soaking cleans the aligner, not your teeth: it’s essential to brush your teeth before putting the aligner back in; otherwise, food particles will remain trapped against your enamel for hours. The storage case is another item people often forget about; it should be rinsed and dried regularly.

If an aligner becomes cloudy, cracks, or no longer fits properly, this is not a cleaning issue: take it to your orthodontist or dentist.

FAQ

Can I use hot water with GUM Ortho Aligner tablets?

No. The aligners are made of thermoformed plastic, and hot water may warp them; lukewarm water is recommended for soaking.

Can I clean my aligner with toothpaste instead of GUM Ortho Aligner?

Conventional toothpastes are abrasive: they scratch the surface of the clear aligners, causing them to become more opaque and more prone to trapping plaque. Soaking them in a cleaning solution prevents this abrasion.

Do I need to brush the aligner in addition to soaking it with GUM Ortho Aligner?

No, the tablet is designed for cleaning without manual brushing. A thorough rinse after soaking is sufficient before wearing the aligner.

Are GUM Ortho Aligner tablets suitable for retention trays?

Yes, they are intended for aligners and retainer trays. The manufacturer’s international documentation also mentions mouthguards and removable dentures.
