When should you use this body balm for very dry skin?

BcomBIO’s Nourishing Melting Body Balm is a rich-textured body care product designed for dry to very dry skin that feels tight after showering or as soon as the weather turns cold. It combines shea butter, sesame oil, and coconut oil with apple, peach, and mango extracts, making it one of our top daily body care products for dry skin to use all over the body.

Shea butter forms the base of the formula. It nourishes and soothes the skin, particularly in areas that are most lacking in lipids: legs, elbows, knees, and the tops of the feet. Sesame and coconut oils round out this blend of plant-based fats, helping the skin regain its softness with each application.

Beyond nourishment, the balm soothes tightness and discomfort associated with dry skin, especially after a hot bath, a shower with hard water, or a day spent in a heated room. The skin appears more supple and feels less rough to the touch.

Its creamy, melt-in-the-skin texture warms up on contact with the hands and spreads easily with a gentle massage, leaving no greasy residue. It’s best used in the evening, when the skin has time to absorb a rich treatment, such as during the cold season, when heating and thick clothing exacerbate dryness on the legs and arms.

A nourishing balm cannot compensate for a morning wash that dries out the skin. For this, we recommend Weleda Shower Gel, a gentle cleanser suitable for all skin types, including the driest and most sensitive. It cleanses without causing tightness; the balm, applied afterward to towel-dried skin, replenishes moisture lost through water and cleansing.

Precautions

  • For external use only. Avoid contact with the eyes; if contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with clean water.
  • Do not apply to broken skin, open cracks, or weeping areas.
  • Contains beeswax: avoid if you have a known allergy to bee products. The formula is therefore not exclusively plant-based.
  • Contains sesame oil, shea butter, and coconut oil: if you have a known allergy to any of these ingredients, seek advice before first use and test on a small area, such as the inner elbow, 48 hours beforehand.
  • This fragranced formula contains vanillin, a substance subject to mandatory allergen labeling, as well as benzyl alcohol: if you have a known allergy to any fragrance component, check the list of ingredients.
  • If redness, stinging, or itching occurs, discontinue use. Dryness accompanied by red patches, persistent itching, or cracks requires medical attention.
  • Apply the balm with clean hands and close the jar tightly after use. Store at room temperature, away from heat. Keep out of reach of children.

Our expert advice on the Melting Body Balm for dry skin

For very dry skin, consistency matters more than quantity: a small amount massaged in thoroughly every day is more effective than a thick layer applied occasionally, which sits on the surface and ends up on your clothes. We recommend starting with the areas that feel the tightest, then spreading whatever remains on your hands over the rest of the body. The most common mistake is expecting the product to make up for overly harsh cleansing: very hot water, regular soap, or vigorous rubbing with a towel.

At the counter, we recommend this balm to customers who prefer a fragranced product with a rich texture. For skin that is sensitive to fragrances, or for those seeking a formula free of animal-derived ingredients, the list of precautions takes precedence over texture: an unscented balm free of animal-derived ingredients would be more suitable in such cases.

FAQ

Is the BcomBIO Nourishing Melting Body Balm difficult to spread?

Its rich texture may come as a surprise at first use, as some buyers have noted. It works best when warmed up: a small amount rubbed between your palms for a few seconds becomes softer and spreads easily, especially on skin that’s still slightly damp.

Does the scent of the BcomBIO Nourishing Melting Body Balm linger on the skin?

Yes. Buyers describe a pleasant, fruity scent that remains noticeable for several hours after application. Someone who already wears perfume may prefer to use it in the evening to avoid the two scents clashing.

Should I choose an oil or the BcomBIO Nourishing Melting Body Balm for very dry skin?

The two serve different purposes. A plant-based oil nourishes the skin and leaves a protective film, but it does not hydrate the skin. The balm is an emulsion that combines a water-based phase with fatty substances: it’s the daily staple for very dry skin, which an oil can occasionally supplement on the roughest areas.
