When should you use this SOS Pimple Gel on blemishes?

Placentor-Végétal SOS Pimple Gel is a targeted cosmetic treatment with a gel texture that is applied directly to the pimple rather than all over the face. It is designed for acne-prone skin and complements daily skincare routines for oily skin. Its formula combines 14% gluconolactone, encapsulated bakuchiol, and 4-terpineol, the main compound in tea tree essential oil.

Used as soon as a pimple begins to form, the gel helps visibly reduce the size and redness of blemishes. Gluconolactone is a polyhydroxy acid, or PHA: its large molecule penetrates the skin more slowly than that of traditional fruit acids. Bakuchiol, extracted from the seeds of an Asian plant, is often touted as a plant-based alternative to retinol.

A pimple often leaves behind a small red or brown spot that lingers for several weeks. The gel also helps minimize the appearance of post-acne marks, redness, and brown spots that follow the blemish. The formula is enriched with a complex of beech bud extract, hydrolyzed soy protein, yeast ferment, and allantoin.

Its gel texture dries to a discreet veil, with an invisible patch effect: it stays on the pimple without leaving a white film or visible buildup. It’s the perfect treatment for occasional breakouts, like a pimple on the chin or the side of the nose that pops up the day before an appointment. The tube fits easily into a makeup bag.

This gel targets existing pimples; keeping the entire area clean depends on your morning and evening cleansing routine. For this, we recommend Urgo’s Purifying Anti-Blemish Syndet Cleansing Gel, a soap-free cleanser designed for oily, blemish-prone skin that removes excess sebum without drying out the skin. It prepares the skin for the SOS gel to be applied afterward. This combination covers both steps of the routine: cleansing the entire area, then targeting the pimple.

How do you apply this spot treatment?

Directions for Use

Apply locally to the pimple on clean, dry skin 1 to 3 times a day as soon as the first signs appear. Continue applying until it disappears completely.

Precautions

  • For external use only. Avoid contact with the eyes, lips, and mucous membranes; in case of contact, rinse thoroughly with clean water.
  • Do not apply to broken or weeping skin, or to a pimple that has burst, been picked, or is bleeding.
  • Targeted treatment: Apply a small amount directly to the pimple only; do not spread it over large areas of the face.
  • The gluconolactone in the formula is an exfoliating acid: a slight tingling sensation may occur. If you are already using a product containing salicylic, glycolic, or lactic acid, retinol, or benzoyl peroxide, do not apply these products to the same area at the same time: irritation itself can cause a brown mark.
  • If you are undergoing acne treatment prescribed by a doctor (cream, gel, or tablets), consult your doctor or pharmacist before adding this product to your routine.
  • During the day, protect your face with a product containing SPF: exfoliating acids can make your skin more sensitive to the sun. Sun exposure can also darken marks left by pimples.
  • Contains 4-terpineol and terpineol, components of tea tree essential oil: do not use if you have a known allergy to tea tree.
  • Contains fragrance and allergenic fragrance ingredients listed in the ingredients list (limonene, alpha-isomethyl ionone, benzyl alcohol, linalyl acetate, geranyl acetate, terpinolene, rose ketones). If you have a history of fragrance allergies, consult your pharmacist before first use.
  • Contains hydrolyzed soy protein: if you have a known soy allergy, consult your pharmacist before use.
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Bakuchiol and 4-terpineol have not been extensively studied in these situations. Consult your doctor or pharmacist before use.
  • Numerous, painful, or deep pimples (nodules, cysts), pimples that leave pitted scars, or skin that does not improve despite appropriate care require medical attention.
  • If severe redness, a burning sensation, or itching persists after application, discontinue use and rinse with clean water.
  • Close the tube tightly after use and store it away from heat. Use within the time period indicated on the packaging after opening. Keep out of reach of children.

Our Expert Tips on the Placentor-Végétal SOS Pimple Gel

The most important thing to remember with this gel is not to layer it with other products. Acne-prone skin often uses a variety of skincare products: salicylic acid cleansers, exfoliating serums, and prescription treatments. Layering this acid-based gel on top of these products does more harm than good: your routine should be guided by caution when layering active ingredients. Applying multiple layers throughout the day doesn’t speed up the process either—irritated skin retains its marks longer.

At the counter, we distinguish between an isolated pimple and established acne. An SOS gel is designed for the former: two or three blemishes from time to time. If you’re using one tube a month, you no longer need a spot treatment—you need a complete skincare routine for acne-prone skin, or even a doctor’s appointment.

FAQ

When should I apply the Placentor-Végétal SOS Pimple Gel in my skincare routine?

Apply the Placentor-Végétal SOS Spot Gel immediately after cleansing and before moisturizer, dabbing it around the spot without rubbing it directly on the blemish. It can also be worn under makeup: simply let it absorb for a few moments before applying foundation or concealer, so the gel doesn’t smudge.

Can I pop my pimple before applying the Placentor-Végétal SOS Pimple Gel?

It’s best to avoid doing so. Squeezing a pimple pushes some of its contents deeper into the skin, increases redness, and can lead to marks that linger even after the pimple has cleared up. The Placentor-Végétal SOS Pimple Gel is designed for pimples left intact, on which it works without any mechanical action.

Does the Placentor-Végétal SOS Pimple Gel contain placenta?

No. The “plant placenta” that gave the brand its name refers to a plant-based complex combining a plant protein hydrolysate and a bud extract. The first Placentor creams, in the 1960s, contained placental extracts; these were replaced by this plant-based complex in the early 1990s. The formula for Placentor-Végétal SOS Pimple Gel contains no ingredients of placental origin.
