When should you use Mela B3 Double Dose for dark spots?
Mela B3 Double Dose is an intensive day and night treatment from La Roche-Posay for skin affected by both persistent dark spots or sun spots and a loss of firmness. Its melt-in emulsion texture envelops the skin in light hydration. The formula combines Melasyl, Proxylane, and niacinamide (vitamin B3) with La Roche-Posay thermal spring water.
Dark spots that appear after years of sun exposure—on the face, neck, or backs of the hands—are localized accumulations of pigment. Melasyl, an active ingredient from La Roche-Posay, is specifically designed to target these spots: the treatment corrects dark spots and sunspots. In a clinical study conducted on 45 people, persistent dark spots were reduced within 4 weeks.
Proxylane, a sugar derivative, provides the treatment with its firming action. Combined with Melasyl, it gives the formula its dual action: while it works on dark spots, it also reduces the signs of aging. Niacinamide rounds out this trio.
Tested on all skin types, this treatment is suitable for all skin types, including oily skin, as well as sensitive skin. It is particularly beneficial for mature skin, where dark spots and sagging often occur together. It fits into your skincare routine as a dark spot corrector, applied between cleansing and moisturizing.
We recommend pairing it with La Roche-Posay’s Toleriane Dermo-Cleanser for Face and Eyes. This gentle face and eye cleanser prepares the skin without stripping it: when applied to clean, comfortable skin, Mela B3 Double Dose spreads more evenly.

Precautions
- This product does not contain a sunscreen. Daily broad-spectrum sun protection (SPF 50 or higher) is essential in the morning, year-round: without it, the results will not last.
- Any spot that changes in appearance, spreads, becomes irregular, changes color, bleeds, or itches should be examined by a doctor before applying any anti-spot treatment.
- Dark spots that appeared during pregnancy or while taking hormonal birth control (pregnancy mask): consult a doctor or dermatologist.
- Do not use another depigmenting treatment, a leave-on exfoliant (AHA, BHA, PHA), or a retinoid on the same area on the same day: the formula already contains niacinamide and a salicylic acid derivative, and irritation itself can cause dark spots.
- Do not apply to broken or irritated skin, sunburned skin, or skin that has recently undergone a dermatological procedure (chemical peel, laser treatment, microneedling) without the practitioner’s approval.
- The formula contains denatured alcohol: a tingling or tightening sensation may occur on sensitive or dry skin. Discontinue use if redness, burning, or persistent tingling occurs.
- Contains fragrance and soybean oil. If you have reactive skin or a known allergy, test the product for 48 hours on a small area (inner elbow or jawline) before applying it to your face for the first time.
- Avoid direct contact with the eyes. In case of contact with the eyes, rinse thoroughly with water.
- Use within 12 months after opening. Close the bottle tightly after use. Keep out of reach of children.

Our expert advice on Mela B3 Double Dose
A dark spot treatment only works on existing spots: every time you’re exposed to the sun without protection, new ones form. That’s why sun protection is the most important step of all—even in fall and winter—and even on the backs of your hands if you’re treating them as well. Before you begin, examine your dark spots one by one: any that look different from the others are not suitable for this product.
During the first few weeks, resist the temptation to add other active ingredients to speed up results. Including just one dark spot treatment in your routine, applied regularly, helps your skin tolerate the treatment better; layering on an acid serum or retinol mainly increases the risk of irritation. Take a photo under the same lighting conditions at the start and then again one month later: this is the most reliable way to assess the results.
FAQ
I’m already using Mela B3 Serum: how is it different from Mela B3 Double Dose?
Mela B3 Serum combines Melasyl and niacinamide to target stubborn dark spots, uneven skin tone, and acne scars; its formula also contains retinyl palmitate, a vitamin A derivative. Mela B3 Double Dose combines Melasyl with Proxylane and niacinamide, without any vitamin A derivatives: it targets dark spots and sun spots as well as signs of aging.
When should I apply Mela B3 Double Dose as part of my skincare routine?
Apply Mela B3 Double Dose morning and night to clean skin, right after cleansing and before your moisturizer. In the morning, finish your routine with sunscreen—this product is not a substitute for sunscreen.
Is Mela B3 Double Dose suitable for my oily skin?
Yes. La Roche-Posay states that Mela B3 Double Dose is suitable for all skin types, including oily skin, and for sensitive skin. Its lightweight, melting emulsion texture provides gentle hydration. On oily but sensitive skin, the denatured alcohol in the formula may cause some tingling during the first few days.
