When should Ergyoligo Fer be used to reduce fatigue?

Ergyoligo Fer is a dietary supplement in vegetarian capsules that provides iron in the form of bisglycinate: a ferrous ion bound to two molecules of glycine, an amino acid. Two capsules provide 14 mg of iron, which is 100% of the reference intake for adults. The formula also contains copper, vitamins B2 and B3, methylated forms of vitamins B9 and B12, and vitamin C.

Iron is the primary nutrient involved in blood formation. It is a component of hemoglobin, the protein in red blood cells that binds oxygen: iron contributes to the normal formation of red blood cells and hemoglobin, and iron contributes to the normal transport of oxygen in the body. When dietary intake no longer meets the body’s needs, fatigue is often the first symptom to appear: iron helps reduce fatigue.

The other nutrients in the formula work alongside iron. Vitamin C, present at 120% of the Reference Intake, acts during absorption: vitamin C enhances iron absorption. Copper then plays a role: copper contributes to the normal transport of iron in the body. Folate (B9) contributes to normal blood formation, vitamin B12 to the normal formation of red blood cells, and riboflavin (B2) to normal iron metabolism.

Ergyoligo Iron is intended for people with low iron intake: those following a vegetarian or vegan diet, those whose diet is low in meat and seafood, and those during periods of increased need. Its gelatin-free, plant-based capsule is suitable for vegetarian and vegan diets. It is among the iron-based dietary supplements, with a dosage suitable for everyone from 3-year-olds to adults.

We recommend combining it with Pileje D3 Biane Vitamin D drops. Vitamin D is not included in the Ergyoligo Iron formula and does not complement any of its nutrients. In the fall and winter, sunlight is no longer sufficient to meet vitamin D needs: the two products complement each other without overlap, for both adults and children.

How should you take these iron bisglycinate capsules?

Precautions

  • Consult a healthcare professional before taking any iron supplements.
  • Not recommended for people with conditions that result in abnormal iron accumulation (hemochromatosis, polycythemia, etc.). Use with caution in cases of thalassemia.
  • For children 3 years of age and older, use only as directed by a healthcare professional. For children under 3 years of age, any iron supplementation requires medical supervision.
  • Do not combine with any other dietary supplement containing iron, including multivitamin complexes or prenatal supplements: at the recommended dosage, the iron intake already reaches the maximum recommended daily intake for both adults and children. For children 10 years of age or younger, do not add any other source of copper.
  • Medications: Allow at least 2 hours between taking iron and antibiotics from the cycline or fluoroquinolone families, bisphosphonates, levothyroxine, zinc, strontium, penicillamine, levodopa, entacapone, methyldopa, and certain antiretrovirals. Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking long-term antacid medication.
  • Calcium, dairy products, whole grains, eggs, tea, coffee, and red wine reduce iron absorption: take them separately from the capsules.
  • Stomach or duodenal ulcers, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, or excessive alcohol consumption: consult your doctor.
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Consult a healthcare professional before taking any supplements.
  • Persistent fatigue despite supplementation warrants a medical consultation: it may have causes other than iron deficiency.
  • Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. Dietary supplements are not a substitute for a varied and balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.
  • Iron is toxic in high doses to young children. If a child accidentally swallows several capsules, call a poison control center immediately.
  • Store at a temperature below 25°C, away from moisture. Keep out of reach of children.

Our Expert Advice on Ergyoligo Iron for Fatigue

Iron is the only nutrient in this formula for which accumulation poses a real problem: this is the precaution to check before taking your first capsule by reviewing the ingredients of everything you’re already taking. Prenatal vitamins, multivitamins, and certain “fatigue” formulas often contain iron without prominently listing it. When consulting a pharmacist, the first question to ask is whether you’ve had a recent ferritin test: this is what determines whether your fatigue is truly caused by iron deficiency.

When it comes to absorption, the timing of your dose matters just as much as the dose itself. Choose a set time, well apart from breakfast, tea, coffee, and dairy products: taking it in the late morning or at lunch, with a glass of water or orange juice, makes it easier to maintain this interval.

FAQ

How long should I wait between taking Ergyoligo Fer and drinking my tea or coffee?

The Ergyoligo Fer label advises against taking it at the same time as tea or coffee, as the tannins in these beverages reduce iron absorption. Santé.fr recommends waiting at least one hour after a meal before drinking tea; leaving one to two hours between taking the capsule and drinking the beverage is a practical guideline.

Can I take Ergyoligo Fer with a meal, at the same time as my omega-3s?

Nutergia does not specify a specific time to take Ergyoligo Fer. Iron can be taken before a meal if your stomach tolerates it; otherwise, take it during a meal, avoiding dairy products. Omega-3s, which should be taken with a meal containing fat, are best taken with another meal throughout the day.

Will my stomach tolerate Ergyoligo Iron well?

Iron bisglycinate is a chelated form chosen for its good digestive tolerance. Like any iron supplement, however, it may cause digestive upset: nausea, abdominal pain, constipation, or diarrhea. Darker, even black, stools are common with iron and are not a cause for concern.

Can I take Ergyoligo Iron and my vitamin D at the same time?

Vitamin D is not one of the nutrients that reduce iron absorption, and there are no known interactions between the two. Ergyoligo Iron and vitamin D can therefore be taken on the same day; taking them at different times is still an option if it simplifies your routine.
