What is Ladrôme Greater Celandine Extract?

Ladrôme Organic Greater Celandine Extract is a liquid extract of greater celandine (Chelidonium majus), a plant in the Papaveraceae family. It is obtained through hydroalcoholic extraction of the flowering aerial parts of the plant, harvested during flowering: alcohol and water serve as solvents, resulting in a liquid preparation that is measured by the drop.

This preparation is for external use only. It is used after dilution in water; the mixture is then applied using a cotton pad or compress.

The mixture is prepared just before application, and the soaked pad is used only once. For this purpose, we recommend Liniderm Pads: 100% cotton, in a resealable pouch containing 180 pads measuring 8 x 10 cm, they are taken one at a time, soaked in the mixture, and then discarded, ensuring that no pre-soaked cotton pad remains within reach.

How do you dilute and apply celandine extract?

Instructions for Use

Dilute 25 drops in a teaspoon of water (5 ml), then apply the mixture twice daily to the affected area using a cotton pad or soaked compress.

Precautions

  • Never swallow the extract, either undiluted or diluted: when taken orally, celandine has been linked to liver damage.
  • In case of accidental ingestion, call a poison control center or dial 15 immediately.
  • Not recommended for children under 6 years of age.
  • Do not use on open wounds or on damaged or irritated skin.
  • Do not apply to mucous membranes (mouth, nose, genital area) or near the eyes. In case of contact with the eyes, rinse thoroughly with clean water.
  • Apply only to a small area; never to a large area of skin: the plant’s alkaloids can partially penetrate the skin.
  • Follow the recommended dilution: do not apply the extract undiluted, and do not increase the number of drops or applications.
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Do not use without consulting a doctor, as no safety data is available.
  • Do not use if you have a known allergy to celandine. Cases of contact dermatitis have been reported following application of celandine to the skin: if redness, itching, blisters, or a burning sensation occur, discontinue use, rinse with water, and consult a pharmacist or doctor.
  • Contains alcohol: the mixture may cause a stinging sensation. Do not use near a flame or heat source.
  • Wash your hands after each application.
  • Any skin lesion that changes in appearance, bleeds, or persists requires medical attention.
  • Store at room temperature in a dry place, protected from light, and out of the reach of children.

Our expert advice on Ladrôme greater celandine extract

The key point is the confusion with plant extracts meant for oral consumption. This extract resembles them in every way: same volume, same dosage per drop, same dilution in water. This is the first question we ask at the counter, because celandine is one of the plants that should never be taken orally. If you also use extracts intended for drinking, store this bottle separately, in a different cabinet.

Prepare the mixture in a spoon reserved for this purpose—never in a glass: any leftover mixture left on the table could be accidentally consumed by an adult or a child. Rinse the spoon immediately afterward: this takes just a few seconds and prevents it from being put away unwashed with the dinner cutlery.

Which medicinal plants are poisonous, and how can you avoid the risk of poisoning? Which medicinal plants are poisonous, and how can you avoid the risk of poisoning?

In herbal medicine, ‘natural’ does not mean ‘harmless’. Indeed, as Paracelsus once said: ‘Everything is poison; nothing is poison. It is the dose that makes the poison ’. Whilst medicinal plants offer valuable therapeutic solutions, around 10% of France’s flora is potentially toxic, and in some cases fatal. Understanding the risks and identifying dangerous species is therefore a crucial step…
