When should you use this self-tanner remover?

Bondi Sands Self-Tanner Remover is a rinse-off foam designed to remove self-tanner from the body. Its formula is based on urea, an active ingredient that softens the stratum corneum and helps loosen the surface cells to which the DHA color adheres; sodium bicarbonate and glycerin round out the formula. It falls into our category of body scrubs and exfoliants, offering an alternative to the gritty texture of a traditional scrub.

The foam exfoliates and leaves the skin feeling soft and silky. It’s used to ensure a clean canvas before reapplying self-tanner, so that the new color settles on an even surface rather than on residue from the previous application.

It’s easy to use: simply apply the foam by hand without any tools, then rinse it off in the shower. Its formula contains neither fruit acids (AHAs) nor salicylic acid—urea and sodium bicarbonate alone provide the exfoliating action, without any abrasive granules.

In the fall, it helps with the transition to a new routine: removing the remnants of a summer tan maintained with self-tanner before switching to a gradual-tanning formula, or starting from scratch when changing shades. It can be used all over the body, including on areas where color lasts longer, such as the elbows, knees, and ankles.

Urea and showering leave the skin exfoliated and more permeable, so it needs to be nourished before receiving a new shade. For this, we recommend Natessance Aloe Vera Moisturizing Body Lotion, applied after showering: it rehydrates the skin’s surface that the remover has just renewed and prepares an even base for the next self-tanner. On the day of this new application, the skin should simply be free of any lotion.

How do you use the remover in the shower?

Directions for Use

On dry skin, at least three days after applying the self-tanner, generously spread the foam over your body by hand and let it sit for at least five minutes. Under a lukewarm shower, remove the foam and self-tanner using a damp washcloth.

Precautions

  • For external use only.
  • Test on a small area before first use.
  • Do not apply to broken, inflamed, or sensitive skin, or to skin that has just been shaved or waxed: urea can cause a stinging sensation on skin with a compromised barrier.
  • Avoid contact with the eyes. If contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with clean water.
  • Discontinue use if redness or itching occurs; consult a healthcare professional if irritation persists.
  • Do not use on the same day as a scrub, peel, or other exfoliating treatment (fruit acids, concentrated urea): their effects on the stratum corneum are cumulative.
  • Contains cocamidopropyl betaine, fragrance, and linalool, which may cause contact allergies: do not use if you have a known allergy to any of these ingredients.
  • Store at a temperature below 30°C, with the bottle upright. Keep out of the sight and reach of children.

Our Expert Tips on the Bondi Sands Self-Tanning Remover

This product targets the DHA pigment, which is embedded in the outermost layers of the epidermis. It does not remove a sun tan—where melanin forms deeper in the skin—nor does it remove pigmented spots: a brown mark that persists despite multiple applications, or that changes in appearance, should be shown to a pharmacist or doctor rather than being exfoliated further.

A tanning remover should not be used with every self-tanning cycle. When the color fades evenly, a shower and body lotion are sufficient; at the counter, we reserve it for tans that fade in patches and for changes in product or shade, so as not to exfoliate the skin more often than necessary.

FAQ

Can I use Bondi Sands Self-Tanning Remover to correct streaks or an orange tint?

Yes, that’s one of its uses: applied to dry skin, it minimizes streaks and overly dark areas left by a botched application. An orange tint is most often caused by a shade that’s too dark for your skin tone or by applying too much product: the next application should be lighter.

How long should you wait before reapplying a self-tanner after using Bondi Sands Self-Tanner Corrector?

Twenty-four hours. This allows the freshly exfoliated skin to rest before receiving a new application, which will then develop more evenly.

Do you need to scrub the skin to remove the self-tanner with Bondi Sands Self-Tanner Remover?

No, the foam itself provides the exfoliation. On stubborn or very dry areas, gently using an exfoliating glove will finish the job; scrubbing hard irritates the skin without improving the results.
