When should this ointment be used for anorectal repair?
Cicatridine Plus Rectal Ointment is an ointment whose base—composed almost entirely of white petroleum jelly and petroleum jelly oil—contains hyaluronic acid in the form of sodium salt. Its formula also combines escin, derived from horse chestnut seeds and bound to beta-sitosterol, as well as glycyrrhetinic acid, derived from licorice root, both in the form of phytosomes. It is applied to the anal area or inside the rectum using the cannula provided with the tube.
This ointment is intended for the adjunctive treatment of the healing process in the anorectal canal, particularly in cases of hemorrhoids, fissures, or perianal fistulas. It is part of a care routine for the area that begins with gentle cleansing using a product selected from our line of intimate hygiene products, followed by the application of the ointment to clean, dry skin.
It is also indicated following proctological surgery, during the period when tissues in the anal region are healing. Other indications for use include proctitis and cryptitis—that is, inflammation of the rectal mucosa or of the small crypts located in the wall of the anal canal.
It is used as a complement to treating the underlying cause of the symptoms: it provides relief to the area while bowel movements regulate, straining decreases, or the treatment prescribed by the doctor takes effect. It is therefore particularly useful during periods when the anorectal region is under strain, such as when stools become hard or irregular.
Proper cleansing before each application is just as important as the ointment itself: a foaming or scented cleanser can irritate an already sensitive area. For this reason, we recommend Cavaillès Extra Gentle No-Rinse Intimate Foam, which is soap-free and has a physiological pH. It gently cleanses the area without requiring rinsing, which makes the process easier after a bowel movement, even when you’re away from home: the ointment is then applied to clean skin, free of any residue that might interfere with its application.

Our Expert Advice on Cicatridine Plus Rectal Ointment
Before using your first tube, the key consideration isn’t the ointment itself but the cause of the discomfort: anal bleeding or pain isn’t automatically classified as hemorrhoids. It’s the precaution regarding bleeding that determines the course of action. A common misconception is that topical treatment alone is sufficient. This ointment provides relief for the affected area; it does not address constipation or the straining that perpetuates painful flare-ups.
At the counter, we therefore emphasize what happens in the bathroom: fiber with every meal, at least 1.5 liters of water per day, and going at a set time without lingering or straining. After a bowel movement, gently patting the area dry rather than rubbing it helps keep the area clean between applications. It’s this combination of steps that helps space out flare-ups.
FAQ
Can I use Cicatridine Plus for both internal and external hemorrhoids?
Yes. Both internal and external hemorrhoids are covered by the product’s intended uses. Both application methods address these two cases: the ointment is massaged onto the anal margin for external hemorrhoids, while the applicator allows it to be applied inside the anal canal and lower rectum for internal hemorrhoids.
Is Cicatridine Plus suitable for my anal fissure?
Yes. Anal fissures are included in its intended uses, as are anal rhagades—those small, superficial cracks in the anal margin. The ointment aids in their healing without replacing treatment for the underlying cause, which is most often hard stools.
How should I apply Cicatridine Plus inside the rectum?
Open the tube by piercing the seal with the opposite end of the cap. Then screw the applicator tip onto the tube; once the cap is removed, applying light pressure will dispense the ointment through its openings. The cannula is then gently inserted into the rectum; applying light pressure again dispenses a small amount of ointment.
