What is Lithium Oligosol used for?

Lithium Oligosol is used as a ground modifier, particularly for minor psychic or psychosomatic symptoms in children over 6 and adults(mild sleep disorders, irritability).

The lithium contained in Oligosol ampoules acts as a mood regulator, modulating the activity of neurotransmitters in the brain. It acts primarily by influencing the concentrations of certain neurotransmitters, notably serotonin and noradrenaline, which play a key role in mood regulation. By stabilizing these neurochemical fluctuations, lithium helps alleviate symptoms of irritability by promoting a calmer, more balanced state of mind.

Lithium's mechanism of action also involves interactions with specific receptors in the brain, notably gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptors, which are involved in modulating neuronal excitability. By regulating the activity of these receptors, lithium can reduce the neuronal hyperexcitability associated with irritability, thus promoting a calmer mental state.

Lithium's action on neurotransmitters is progressive and often takes some time to reach its full therapeutic effect. However, once neurochemical balance has been restored, patients can benefit from a significant reduction in irritability and an overall improvement in emotional well-being.

Lithium is also known for its beneficial effects on sleep. By regulating neurochemical activity, it acts on the sleep centers in the brain, promoting better control of the sleep-wake cycle. The sleep-wake cycle is regulated by a complex set of neurochemical mechanisms, notably involving neurotransmitters such as serotonin, dopamine and GABA.

Lithium acts by modulating these neurotransmitters, promoting a smoother transition between the different phases of sleep. It can help reduce the time it takes to fall asleep, extend the duration of deep sleep and minimize night-time awakenings. In addition, by promoting better, more restorative sleep, lithium can help reduce mild sleep disorders such as intermittent insomnia.

Lithium-induced sleep improvement can also have beneficial effects on mood and general well-being. Quality sleep is essential for physical and mental regeneration, and by promoting more restful sleep, lithium can help improve the body's ability to cope with the stresses and challenges of daily life.
