Essential oils are not soluble in water. Without dispersant, they therefore can not be integrated in exclusively aqueous formulations, such as gels and lotions. They can not be directly dissolved in water as a carrier for use internally or to create aromatic drinks.
Dispersants are mixtures having the property to homogeneously disperse in water of water-insoluble liquids, such as essential oils.
This is not a real "solution" homogeneous, but a dispersion in the form of very fine droplets of essential oil which hold in suspension relatively stable in the medium term or long term. The resulting mixture will be cloudy or milky.
Dispersants therefore possible to "dissolve" the essential oils in aqueous gels and lotions, but also create aromatic beverages.
