When the throat is irritated , respiratory well-being can be disturbed. Our expert pharmacy advice

What is the difference between a dry cough and a wet cough?

  • Dry cough is characterized by inflammation of the airways. In fact, it is an irritative cough and does not produce phlegm.
  • The "fat" cough is characterized by an accumulation of secretions in the bronchi. In fact, it is a defense of the body that produces mucus with the aim of expelling the agents responsible for inflammation.

Additional advice in case of cough:

  • Humidify the air:

Dry air increases mucous membrane irritation and causes coughing spells. If the humidity in the room is below 45%, use a humidifier. Choose it preferably with cold air to avoid the risk of burns. There is no need to exceed 55% humidity.

  • Clear the nose:

Dry secretions clog your child's nose. Use saline (salt water in the form of nose drops) as much as you want to rinse your nose thoroughly. Then ask him to blow his nose well. If your baby is too small to blow his nose, suck out his secretions using a baby nasal aspirator.
