Although similar in concept, there are notable differences between glycerin macerate and mother tincture (M.T.):

Manufacturing Process:

• Mother tinctures are produced according to the French Pharmacopoeia, in which the equivalent of 1/10th of the plant’s dry weight is macerated in alcohol.

• Glycerine macerate, on the other hand, uses a mixture of alcohol and glycerin for maceration. This process is carried out with the equivalent of 1/20th of the dry weight of the buds or young shoots.

Concentration:

• The glycerin mother macerate is half as concentrated as the mother tincture. This is an important factor to consider when using or prescribing it.

Dilution:
