What are the different products from the hive?
- Royal jelly is a marvelous food that gives the queen bee a lifespan 40 times longer than that of other bees and remarkable productivity. It is true that the extremely rapid growth of the queen bee larva and her exceptional longevity piqued the curiosity of those who observed her. It has a sweet and tangy flavor and a gelatinous consistency. Royal jelly consists mainly of water, proteins, and sugars, but also contains lipids, minerals, vitamins, and fatty acids. The main ingredient isapalbumin-1, which makes up 2.5% of Arkoroyal®* royal jelly. It is beneficial to bees thanks to its nutritional and antibacterial properties.
- Propolis, a resinous substance, is collected by worker bees from various plants or the bark of damaged trees when nectar and pollen are still scarce. Green propolis is produced by bees using “field rosemary”; its composition complements that of brown propolis and helps maintain hive hygiene. Brown propolis generally comes from the buds of European poplar trees. Theantibacterialactivity of propolis helps maintain hive hygiene. Propolis is therefore known as the hive’s “natural shield.”
- Honey is a sweet, creamy, and fragrant liquid that has been renowned for thousands of years. It nourishes the bees and is stored in the hive to serve as food during unfavorable seasons. Honey is also a complex substance composed of more than 180 elements. To produce a 500-gram jar of honey, bees must make more than 17,000 trips and visit 8,700,000 flowers.
- Pollen helps strengthen the immune system and, thanks to its composition, provides vitality and energy to the body. It is the male reproductive cell produced by the stamens of flowers.
