When should this micro-enema be used for occasional constipation?
Forgolax Micro-Enema is a ready-to-use micro-enema whose formula combines glycerol (76.7%), a hydroglycerin extract of white mallow (6.6%) rich in polysaccharides, and honey. It acts locally, via the rectum, without passing through the stomach or small intestine. It is part of our line of rectal laxatives, available as micro-enemas, gels, or suppositories.
Its action is primarily due to glycerol, which has emollient and moisturizing properties. Upon contact with the contents of the rectum, it softens the stool, triggers the urge to have a bowel movement, and facilitates evacuation without the need for prolonged straining.
The polysaccharides in white mallow form a gentle mucilage when in contact with water, which coats the rectal wall. This third component of the triple action soothes the rectal mucosa, which is often irritated by difficult bowel movements. It relieves the discomfort caused by constipation, such as a feeling of heaviness or the sensation of incomplete evacuation.
It is used as needed: after a few days without a bowel movement due to travel, bed rest, or a change in routine, or when stools are hard and difficult to pass. It is also useful when cleansing the rectal opening and anus is necessary.
To help regulate stool consistency over time, we recommend Superdiet Organic Blond Psyllium: its soluble fiber absorbs water in the intestine and gives stools bulk and softness, making it easier for them to pass on a daily basis.

Our expert advice on Forgolax microenemas and constipation
A micro-enema “that didn’t work” is often one that wasn’t fully emptied. Place a drop of the product on the cannula to make insertion easier, insert it gently without forcing it, then squeeze the single-dose packet all the way to the end and remove it without releasing the pressure: if you let go too soon, it will draw back some of the product. Then give it time to work rather than rushing to the bathroom immediately.
This type of product is intended for what’s known as “terminal” constipation: the stool is there, but it’s difficult to pass. If you haven’t felt the urge to go for several days and your stomach is bloated, the blockage is located higher up, and a micro-enema won’t make much of a difference. At the counter, this is the first distinction we make before recommending a rectal form.
FAQ
How long does it take for Forgolax micro-enema to work?
No specific timeframe is indicated on the package. For glycerol-based rectal laxatives, the effect usually occurs between 5 and 30 minutes after administration. The time may be longer if stools are very hard or if constipation has lasted for several days: it’s best to use it at a time when access to a restroom is easy.
What should I do if I frequently need to use Forgolax micro-enema?
Frequent use indicates that the bowel movement itself needs to be addressed, with medical advice. In daily life, several habits can help: staying well-hydrated, getting regular physical activity, maintaining a consistent schedule for using the restroom, and sitting with your feet elevated on a small footstool can help stools move through the digestive tract and pass more easily.
